(every now and then somebody pops up that does it, usually when they do those films based on real people like Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Thank goodness that didn’t bring any Bundy rpers as far as I’m aware of. Its a yikes.)
Training and Family Bonding
Viktor and Sonja fight quite similarly to one another, it’s likely that a good portion of her swordsmanship skills came from lessons from her father. He taught Sonja what she knows for conducting herself in court and in counsel, when he finds time to train her to evantually take her rightful place as an Elder its some of the only time she spends with Viktor.
Essentially they are strangers to each other, as while she’s closer than most she doesn’t quite know her father on a personal level. Seeking him out for a sparring session under the guise of training permits her precious time with her father she might not otherwise get, and grants Viktor his daughter’s attention which can be difficult for most to earn and attain for lengthy periods of time.
Lucian Wasn’t the Only One who Survived
Shortly after Sonja’s execution and Lucian and the lycans siege onto the castle, the burnt corpse of the coven’s disgraced princess had vanished without a trace. Many assumed that it had been destroyed in the battle, or that the sun had reduced her to complete ashes, or perhaps even that Viktor overcome by guilt had his daughter’s body removed and buried shortly after her execution. It was a mystery that none had an answer to, all assumed that Sonja had perished--but they were wrong.
Sonja’s handmaiden Valka, had spirited away her former mistress’s body to the far off Northern Coven Var Dohr, in the hopes that the coven’s leader Vidar would be able to revive her. Valka took her there, as it is known that the Nordic Coven had never harmed, hunted, or enslaved lycans in their proud and peaceful history leading the vampiress to believe that Sonja might be offered clemency there until she regained her strength enough to go into hiding. Vidar succeeded in reviving Sonja, but her unborn child did not survive the process of the cocooning ritual.
Changed from her previous state and unable to return to her old life, Sonja resided for several centuries in Var Dohr as she regained her strength. Waiting out the term of her father’s rule for Markus’s as she knew he cared little for her father’s politics and would not look for her if rumour was heard of her survival. Once recovered, she moved from the safety of the Nordic Coven to a private home not too far away from the Budapest coven so she could keep a close eye upon her father and assist the lycans how she could from the shadows. Sonja in due time, became aware of the woman who was her double that her father had turned, and that this woman had broken the chain and awoken Viktor early for an unknown reason.
This spurred Sonja to emerge from hiding, beliving she might either have a chance for revenge or that the rumours of Lucian’s survival were true--perhaps allowing her to end the wretched war that had begun with her ‘death’.
Amelia had done something to earn Viktor’s distrust with her long absences at the coven in the far north she had helped construct when Sonja was a girl, the specifics of which Sonja was not made privvy to. Fearing a loss of power, Viktor had Sonja come into power, her birthright early out of concern of losing control over the covens. Tasked with acting as an elder sooner than she ever expected to, and a title that she never wished to attain, Sonja is forced to create a coven of her own (one that would later be known as the impenetrable fortress that was the Eastern Coven) and further assist with the cleansing of the feral Children of William.
Suspicious of the circumstances of her coronation and why she was not permitted to take Lucian with her, Sonja has to rely on her father’s counsel more than ever before in order to successfully govern a large body of both courtesan, courtier and common vampires of her own in addition to her own deathdealer force.
