I have done the typical tumblr thing and emerged from my multi-year hiatus because I have become obsessed with a new piece of media. Unfortunately, in this case, the fandom is practically non-existent, and no one seems to have seen the film in question or even have read the novel upon which the movie is based. I am trying to rectify this, because despite the critical ratings, this movie is very enjoyable. I don't know why more people don't like it.
The film in question is "I Stil See You," starring Bella Thorne and Richard Harmon. It is a fascinating ghost mystery thriller with some spooky and science fiction elements. If you like any of those genres, I highly recommend checking it out. The acting is quite good, the story is multi-faceted and has a fascinating premise, and the effects are stellar.
(I'm going to end up writing fanfiction for this movie that almost no one has seen, aren't I?)
‘I Still See You’ is so underrated that it makes my heart hurt.
If you like a good ghost story that’s also sort of a sci-fi flick then you’ll absolutely love ‘I Still See You’
‘I Still See You’ is directed by Scott Speer (Midnight Sun, Status Update), the screenplay was written by Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman, Pan) The movie was based off the novel ‘Break My heart One Thousand Times’ written by Daniel Waters.
Cast: - Bella Thorne as Veronica Calder. - Richard Harmon as Kirk Lane. - Dermot Mulroney as August Bittner. - Amy Price-Francis as Mrs. Calder. - Shaun Benson as Mr. Calder. - Thomas Elms as Brain. - Sara Thompson as Janine.
Plot: After an explosion at a Laboratory kills countless people in its blast range, ghosts start to appear. People start to call these ghosts ‘Remnants’ as they are always doing what they did before they died and then disappear only to appear again the next day at the same time. Ten years later a high school student called Veronica gets confronted by a seemingly angry and violent Remnant, she convinces the new boy Kirk who has a fascination with Rems to help her research about this angry ghost. what they discover will lead them down a very dangerous past and Veronica will learn that she can’t always trust those closest to her.
Personally I can’t stand Bella as a person, but I do like some of the character's she plays. Veronica probably being my favourite, you can like the art by not the artist. But I wouldn’t know about this amazing movie if it wasn’t for Richard Harmon, I’ve been a fan of Richards for quite sometime now. I started watching The 100 after season one had aired, which I binged watched and then waited for season 2 and Murphy was always my favourite character. So I started to watch all of Richards other projects, and I love that most of them are horror/ thrillers as he really suits the genre.
I could literally sit here all day and talk about how much I love Richard Harmon, but that’s not what we are here for.
This movie is a new fresh take on a ghost story, and again shows that sometimes the paranormal isn’t what you should fear. It’s human beings. The mood is shown through the beautiful colouring of the film with dark blues and greys. The effects for the Rems when they disappear is really cool, it makes them look like fragments of which they are. They are fragments of memories that will keep remaining forever always doomed to relive their last memory.
I don’t want to say much about how the plot develops but I will say to watch the film without watching the trailer, you won’t regret it! You go into it thinking it’s one thing but come out the other end surprised.
Honestly just a really good film that is shockingly underrated, I don’t think I've seen anyone else talk about it. It also ends on a little cliffhanger, i’m not sure if they have plans for a second one but I would actually love that! Veronica and Kirk are such a good mystery solving team!
10/10 one of my favourite ghost stories.
Please go show Richard Harmon some love as well! He’s so incredibly talented and deserves the world <3
