Gym Leaders vs Trial Captains

Trial Captains have been a part of Verritian culture for centuries, holding a similar position to the ones in Alola. They’re are several differences, such as their use of Totem Pokemon in trainer combat. There is 18 Captains in the Verritas region, each focusing on their chosen type, as with other regions.

With the influx of foreigners coming into Verritas, they have brought with them their own system of the Pokemon League, Gym Leaders. The Gym Leaders have also split into each of the 18 types, and to match the Trial Captains use of Totem Pokemon, the Gym Leaders have begun using Mega Evolution.

Despite the much larger number of Trial Captains/Gym Leaders in the Verritas Region, not all of them must be defeated to face the Verritian Champion. As with other regions, only 8 are necessary, with the each being fought up to the challenger, and each Captain/Leader scaling their team to however many the challenger has already defeated.

Origin Variants

Nestled deep with the Forest of Primordia there lies a shrine, dedicated to a Legendary Pokemon that once visited the Verritas Region long ago, Celebi. The Pokemon is known outside of the region to create massive forests, and the Forest of Primordia is no different. What makes the Forest unique is what lies within it.

The shrine is dedicated to the second aspect of Celebi, It’s nature as a time traveler. If one brings the correct materials to the shrine, they may perform a ritual that will allow the performer to travel to a time long ago, where many extinct Pokemon thrive. These Pokemon exist in the modern day through fossil rejuvenation, a science which is just as active in Verritas as it is in other regions, but this process corrupts the Pokemon, splicing the Rock type into them. But through this time travel process. One may find the original versions of these Pokemon, Origin Variants.

The Wonders of Science

Many scientific have flocked to re Verritas region, it's mostly unspoiled land the perfect place to study the newest scientific breakthrough of the Pokemon World: cloning. Based upon research discovered on Cinnibar Island before it's destruction by volcano, cloning has become one of the most controversial subjects of study in the Pokemon world. Arguments of it's merits and how ethical it is have left scientists with nearly nowhere to study it, until the introduction of Verritas into modern society. No laws exist within the Verritas region prohibiting scientific research of any kind as of yet, so cloning has not only begun being studied within it, but it has expanded rapidly into a new branch of research: Pokemon alterations. Pokemon alterations are what happens when a clone of a Pokemon is altered in some capacity before it is born, resulting in a different Pokemon than what should have been born. There are three main types of clones currently being studied within the Verritas region, with occasional overlap between them. This has not helped the world's view of cloning at large, but as of yet nothing has been done to stop it, aside from local backlash.

Grootslang Pokemon

1. Water. Elephantine Pokemon, with a touch of reptilian features.

2. Water/Dragon. Reptilian features become more prominent.

3. Water/Dragon. Hybrid elephant/dragon with gems enchristed on it’s body.

Looks like someone stumbled on one o the Pseudo Legendary Pokemon of Verritas! That’s right, one of them. There’s three Pseudo Legendaries so far!

This Pokemon is based on a Grootslang(obviously) a dragon elephant hybrid, courtesy of @theload and her infinite draconic wisdom. The Grootslang would start out mostly like an elephant, with some touches of reptilian features here and there, and by the end it would be a hybrid monstrosity, with the addition of gems encrusted on it’s body! The Dragon Type is obvious, and the Water Type is due to elephants using their trunks to spray water! A Magic side exclusive Pokemon, the Grootslang would be a devastating physical attacker for sure, but beyond that I haven’t figured out much for moves or Ability.

Smilidon Pokemon

1. Rock/Electric. Smilidon cub, with fangs resembling prongs.

2. Rock/Electric.

You have stumbled upon the first of several fossil Pokemon! These are obviously based on smilidon, with their fangs looking like electrical prongs, and a typing that was unique until Alolan Geodude showed up. The second stage would have a tail resembling a spark plug, and static electricity covering it’s whole body, looking like fur. Being a fossil Pokemon, it also has a Origin Variant, which would have likely been pure Electric!

Slither Pokemon1. Ground/Fighting. Brown and white snake.2. Ground/Poison3. Ghost/Poison Hedgehog Pokemon1. Fairy. 2. Fairy/Psychic. 3. Dark/Psychic.Number 35 falls at the end of an evolution, so I'll cover all three of them, as well as their counterparts! Number 33-35 is a snake Pokemon, collectively known as the Slither Pokemon, which shares an evolutionary rivalry with the Hedgehog Pokemon, who is 36-38. While there are other Pokemon rivalries, most notably Zangoose and Seviper, the rivalry shared between these two is a strange one. As you can see with the above type list, the pair goes through an extreme shift in their type, but this is due to each one trying to overcome the other, by taking on a different typing to counter the other. The end result is a drastic change in type, but oddly, not in stats. The BST of the Pokemon stays intact between the first two forms, with only 20 higher in their respective final evolutions. While ultimately the hedgehog has the superior final typing,

Legendary Trio of Verritas

Or the first lore related post on the Verritas Region I decided to tackle a very important se of Pokemon: the main Legendary trio!

The main trio of Legendaries are based around states of matter. The three are Creation, Form, and Destruction, and their avatars are a Gryphon, Unicorn, and a Dragon, respectively. Simyrphon, Unidann, and Drakahas.

Simryphon, the Flying/Normal Gryphon of Creation. She can make raw materials of any kind, but only the raw materials as anything else is beyond her, admittedly, considerable power. Many see her as an avatar of Arceus himself, but this is untrue, her role is merely a part of the balance shared amongst the three Pokemon. Her Ability create’s random, powerful effects on the battlefield, ranging from fully powered Toxic Spikes, to mimicking the effects of Desolate Land. Unfortunately, these can be used to the advantage of her foe as much as herself.

Unidann, the Dark/Normal Unicorn of Form. Unidann takes the raw materials made by Simyrphon and shapes them into whatever form it see’s fit. Some say it is the one who actually formed Mew, the first Pokemon, but the connection between the two, if any, is unknown. Unfortunately, Unidann’s incredibly potent powers have made it a target for human capture more than once, so it is quite wary of humans in general. Fortunately, it understands that a few bad humans does not mean the whole lot is just as bad. It formed them after all. It’s Ability takes any effects present on the field and changes them into a different one. However, the effect is almost always beneficial to Unidann in some way.

Drakahas, the Dragon/Normal Dragon of Destruction. Drakahas represents the end of matter entirely, with the ability to destroy it completely. In this way he is the Trio Master, even though the three see each other as equals. Drakahas destroys not because of any malicious desires, but because it is simply what must be done. In order for the cycle to start anew, there must be room for it to start. Along with this, he is the most outwardly friendly of the Trio, as he views all life as something beautiful and interesting while it lasts. The Ability Drakahas takes into combat utterly destroys any kind of effect on the field, regardless of who summoned it. Not even Primal Pokemon’s Abilities can stand up against it.

CHILDREN OF DRAKAHAS

The history of Verritas is meticulously kept, in both written and oral form, so the rise of the cult known as the Children of Drakahas is well documented. Long ago, before Verritas became aware of the world around it, there were three main religions. Each one centered around one of the members of the Matter Trio, and a healthy respect was shared by all, as their deities would have wanted. The Legendary Pokemon were even known to make an occasional appearance to their followers, Drakahas least of all. One follower of Drakahas, whose name has been lost to time, became fed up with his gods lack of appearance. If the Dragon was based around Destruction, surely destruction would gain his favor? And surely the destruction of the pale imitations of the Dragon would gain his favor most of all. And so was formed the Children of Drakahas. Others followed this enigmatic new leader, as he was a high ranking member of the Order, and they began a long and brutal war with their former brothers and sisters. Dragon type Pokemon were captured and sacrificed, the sheer number causing Drakahas to finally make his presence felt. The war was halted by the dragon, both sides showing reverence for their deity. Each believed that the dragon was there to prove them right. And prove them right he did. Drakahas destroyed over half of the Children in an instant, leaving no trace behind of their minds, bodies, or souls. With that he was gone, saddened by the loss of life his former followers had caused, and unable to face the ones who remained loyal. Unfortunately, the Children of Drakahas took this to mean the opposite of the Legendaries intent. They saw it as their deity giving them the ultimate gift: Destruction. The very thing he represented. Despite their dwindled numbers, the Children of Drakahas remained, fleeing into the mountains to save themselves from the rest of the Order. Fr many years the cult remained in the shadows, continuing to sacrifice Dragon Pokemon, hoping Drakahas would show his face once again, but their numbers never rose to the number they once had....until now. With the intrusion of the outside world into Verritas, large numbers of people have begun joining the Children of Drakahas, seeing it as the means with which to free their region, either by Drakahas himself returning to show his support...or by spreading the dragons Destruction to all those who oppose them.
