Rise of Cerberus: Shadows over Corneria
((This is something of an open RP starter post as well as a general AU concept post based on the idea that, what if, after the Lylat War, Corneria turned to becoming a totalitarian fascist state in order to maintain peace in Lylat and prevent future wars? Of course, such extremism is then abused, and all of Lylat suffers as it falls into civil conflict...))
((Some music to set the mood...))
It has been years since the Lylat War. The first major war in the system’s history in over a century, and perhaps the most destructive one in its entire modern history. Much has been spent in rebuilding what was lost: cities, infrastructure, homes, businesses, and more. The five years that Venom and Corneria battled each other through nearly pushed them both to extinction.
In the peace that followed, resentment among the people grew. The war had ruined everything, taken away what they had loved, what they had spent their whole lives on... those that still had their lives, at least. There was a demand for retribution. A demand for justice. A demand.... for safety. Safety at any cost. Neither Corneria nor the rest of Lylat could afford another war and hope for its civilization to survive.
Corneria responded to that demand. Various military leaders conspired with civic authorities to petition the cabinet of General Pepper to take a stand against future calamity, against future wars. Eventually and reluctantly, Pepper gave in to the demands of the people, forming a new elite corps of Cornerian soldiers tasked with the keeping of public peace and security across all of Lylat. They were the guardians of safety. They called themselves Cerberus.
With the three headed hell hound emblem emblazoned upon their uniforms, Cerberus became instantly recognized as the new elite among the Cornerian military. Dressed in stark black uniforms, Cerberus garnered a reputation for efficiency, talent, and above all else... ruthlessness. Under their watch, Lylat was indeed peaceful, under the threat of arrest or even death. Dissidents were not tolerated, and enforcement of all law was a strict and merciless one. Fear kept the people in line, now. Then they grew hungry for more.
Pepper’s cabinet has become powerless to stop the demon they have created. The military officers that formed the leadership of Cerberus are also heads of various political blocs that keep themselves in power. Those who try to challenge their authority are stripped of rank and power, and those who devote themselves to Cerberus are profoundly rewarded. In their haste for safety, Lylat has surrendered their freedom, and then created the guard dog that watches over them with vicious, hungry eyes. A shadow has fallen over Corneria... and soon it will give rise to more conflict in attempt to overthrow it.
To be continued...
