His nose scrunched up and he was already shaking his head he was trying to say he had to do something and she was trying to tell him no because of something she did not understand or could no recall and while sure those men could be a problem, he needed healing supplies for the village, it was the whole reason he had come into town, it was the whole reason he had invited her along, at this point. ❝Hua Mulan.❞ he began ❝This is not about being right or wrong, do you not see that, it is about why we came here--well why I came here and you wanted to come with...❞ he said softly not quiet heatedly but he did not like the way she was speaking to him. ❝I hunt in broad daylight.❞ he reminded her ❝It depends upon the prey.❞ again he shook his head. These were people, expensively dressed powerful people, but so was he, so was Mulan. He did not feel afraid of them. He did not feel anything for them. He took in a breath and turned to look at her did he not believe her. ❝Do not speak to me like that.❞ he said hushed. ❝It is how Li Tong speaks when she wishes to get her way with me, and I do not like it from her, and even less from you.❞ he said softly ❝It has nothing to do with what I believe but rather what I NEED to do.❞ he said ❝I believe you are worried and scared--I understand you have a bad feeling.❞ he followed ❝Understand though, this will not stop me from acquiring the medical things I need from the market place, that farm community needs my help.❞

Into The Woods

It was not a regularly scheduled Night Hunt, Jin Ling had come to see them as foolish the competitions was silly. They should not be doing this at this stage. What they should be doing was taking tally of places they had helped. It was not a popular opinion. People wanted a reason to get together and hunt and brag. In fact he was pretty sure the Sect Leader Yao would out right revolt, not that he was good at night hunting but he liked to brag.

There was a small mining town at the base of a mountain and a wide expanse of forest with thick shadows and heavy fog. The small town had been having problems with a pack of wolf headed creatures. They had written for help and Jin Ling had been asked about it at a Sect meeting. He hated when the Sect that was asked brought things to him, because they didn't want to do anything with it, since they would not be given much in return. Jin Ling wrote to his friends about it. He had invited the Lan's Sizhui had not been able to attend but promised to send Jingyi. He had written to WenRou because a spiritualist was always good, and someone capable of magic was important with Sizhui out, and of course he would invite Zizhen he was his oldest friend in all of this and the closest to him.

That he wasn't silently mooning over.

Also he needed someone to keep him from throttling Jingyi

He was waiting on the outskirts of the town at the appointed time, Long bow over his shoulder and blade prominently displayed. At his side was Fairy, and she was clad in a leather vest. If they were going after anything wolf like his Spirit dog would be protected. He gave a wave as the other's arrived drawing attention to his presence where he stood in the shade of a huge tree.

“Over here.” he sounded excited to have a break from Sect duties to do this.

Damn right he was going to step into the place.

He was furious no one told him, even Mingyu had not been told until they had been summoned and Jin Ling had heard through the Sect Leader grape vine. So yes he had come to Gusu, it was his home Sect even though he was the Jin Sect Leader. Few people could do anything about that, since they were all linked in someway. "Then what the hell are you doing ?" he snapped. Golden eyes were bright and there was no hiding the raw fury he felt.

He didn't want to hear that, but he knew that he was right and he took a breath and frowned. "Its not fair." he stated as his turned and crossed his arms. "A-Yu is suppose to be the Gusu Sect Heir." he stated "She should be leading this Sect not married into another." he was indignant. "She's taken all the lessons I have, she's good under pressure, and she knows her stuff." he defended since he couldn't make anyone else listen. Zizhen was the poor fool who was stuck with a pissed off Jin Ling.

Of course everything that Zizhen said was rational.

"I have." he grumbled and looked irritated.

"No but this is different she my baby sister, my only sister." he stressed "My mother's only daughter." he was sad about it now, it was settling in that they were all growing up. It was scary to grow up. He slumped a little. "If, she said no. Would you honor it ?" he asked seriously. Of course he had never seen Zizhen mean to anyone. He shook his head no.He was always upstanding if not a bit loud when with Lan Jingyi.

A Dark Shadow Across The Sun

It was suppose to be a normal hunt, a typical one. Often time he and Lan Sizhui would partner up and go on Night Hunt's together. The word had reach the pair while they were in a Tea House in Joi, that there was something going on in the farm land. Golden eyes went the grey of his companion and he arched a thin brow at Sizhui.  "Something you think we should check out ?" he asked the other young man. His head tipped lightly to the side.  The two were more than companions at this point, they had been close friends all their lives and somewhere along the way friendship had given way to actual love. If it had not been there all along which wouldn't surprise Jin Ling even a little bit.

He had recently had a birthday and they had celebrated it largely in Koi Tower, he was heralded as a decent man. Someone to get the job done, someone whom others should look up too. He had mostly shed the young mistress barb, as he was twenty  now, and a upstanding, elegant gentleman. The Sect would do just fine with little work from him. His mother had returned, like a Phoenix, they had found her on Phoenix Mountain infact, so people were calling her that. Lan Xichen had even come to check up on her, and if the two weren't courting in some indirect way he'd buy Jingyi a week's worth of Emperor Smile. Still, she had gotten Zewu-Jun to come out of seclusion so he supposed it was good enough. It was fairly amazing at how adapt Jiang Yanli was at running a Sect, and she had merely smiled and sent him out to do his Night Hunt, she would be there when he returned. She promised, and he really did want to see Sizhui, they were all but a couple, in the eyes of those that they felt it counted in. Still Wei Wuxian had said he ought to make a honorable man out of his son. Did Sizhui want to marry him ? They had been courting for some time at least he thought that was what it was. Never had they had this conversation though. He was afraid of ruining something good with trying to tie down the other boy. The thought lingered still, but looking across the table at the calm smiling face he always felt like he was home. No place could be home, because this man was.

Family Matters

The request to meet with him had been sent by his nephew, though Son would have been more apt, seeing as he had raised both the Jades of Gusu. Mediation was a way of life for him these days, the tea was already brewing and he was certainly curious to an extent. Why this was a formal request for a meeting, rather than just joining him as often he does.

Lan Qiren had been so removed from everything since the attack on Cloud Recesses had caused him to be badly wounded. He still journeyed out but this grew rarer and rarer. He had a good idea since it was no secret that he had brought one the Jiang clan back with him to the recesses to recover and heal.  He was not surprised, it seemed in the past few years his Jade had grown into willful, and stubborn young men.

They had, discussed this before the elders had thought that a Jiang that was so closely connected to the Demonic Cultivator would not be an appropriate match. That the inclination of what that would mean would be seen as supporting the ideals. Lan Qiren did not want that. He did not like change, and to think his Second Jade was already caught up in the mess, now the First Jade wished to wed the sister of the same Demonic Cultivator. It was enough to make his head hurt.

The crux of all of this was that the fated one, could not so easily be let go of. There was only ever one. Lan Qiren had lost his own. It was why he chose to become a recluse and reflect on the world as opposed to leading the clan. He had left that to Lan Xichen because he was capable of speaking with others and putting them at ease. He also had a good head on his shoulders, and wisdom beyond years, even if he were naive to some things.

The two disciples that were often with him were waved away when he heard footsteps arrive. This was a private matter. "You may go." he told them. Waiting until they bowed and headed to the door, both bowed the Sect Leader, awaiting him to enter before exiting as respect demanded. They closed the doors behind them leaving Uncle and Nephew in the room alone together.

"You wished to see me ?" he asked motioning to the seat across from him his normal spot.

                                                                          She was admitted a touch startled when she heard footsteps, she expected Madame Jin the two were suppose to have tea together. So to find herself face to face with Jin Zixuan was a surprise. There was a startled hand that fluttered to her chest. The smile was genuine though and she titled her head to the side offering the smallest bow.                                                                                             It was always with measured expression that she intereacted with him. As she did not wish to upset the young lord. The peonies made her face brighten and she took them bringing them to her nose to smell. The smile touching her lips lightly. "Thank you, they are beautiful." she praises his gift. Seeking one of the brightest among them. She pulls it free and offers it in return holding the flower to him. "Will you be joining your mother and I for tea ?"                                               @nevereigned

There was nothing beautiful about suffering in silence. He knew that Wangji did just that and not just with him, with everyone with the world. His talk with the First Jade of Gusu had been terribly enlightening and had caused his own heart to beat harder to ache and to feel an unending sorrow. How could he feel so strongly for someone--the last person that had achieved this had been his sister and she was the only one that could make her hurts his own. It pained him, what had happened ? When had this gone from simply I want to spend time with you because your beautiful and I enjoy your company to--if you ache I ache, if you hurt I hurt.

He had that sneaking suspicion that it was something more than just two soulmates. How can you not love your soulmate ? How could Lan Zhan do all those things, for the memory of a ghost. The memory of someone who had forced him to let go of his hand. He had been terrified that his brother would have driven the sword into the rock and continued until Lan Zhan joined him in his ill fate. While he could deal with his own death, in fact, he had already accepted it a long time ago. He could not allow this beautiful, bright light, a force unto himself to fall with him.

Now he learned that he was hidden away, like the rare gem that he was known to be called. It UPSET him in a way. He wasn't sure he could be upset. "Wengji." he began as he looked around before closing the sliding doors behind him. Normally the face he gave to the man was smiling and warm. At the moment there was more of a mask, than the cat one Mo had worn. "Tell me this." he said "Do you think we are going to follow the tragedy of your mother and father ?" his gray eyes held a glint and his lips were set in a fine line. @thesecondjade
