❛ the hardest battles aren't fought with weapons but with the heart. ❜
Who was he to deny the passion he felt with a blade in his hand? The heavy broadsword that was the Buster Sword swung easily like an extension of his arms. Yet still he could not deny the truth in her words. His heart was the reason why he fought so hard. The ideals that he believed in, the desire to become a hero, to protect those he held dear; all of these were the reasons that he fought.
He looks at her with his dimly glowing mako-infused eyes before looking away as a bubble of shyness exposes itself within the pit of his belly. Being truthful with his emotions was still something that the ex-SOLDIER needed to work on, but he tried his best for his companions. For her.
"Maybe." He begins, his gaze returning to her blue eyes. "Can't say I've noticed."
were you following me? from squall.
The cold air bit lightly against exposed skin. His dark, issued SOLDIER class uniform could only somewhat protect him from the lowering temperatures of the evening. They had separated for the evening to their respective bedrooms, yet something had nagged at the blonde. Something that the man had said brought him some slight concern. Was it even his business to?
He had slid out of bed moments after the door across his own opened and shut with a slight creak. The attempts to be silent were commendable at least, but enhanced senses made it easier to hear, so there was little to hide from Cloud, unless he really didn't want to be privy to secrets. However, worry had settled in the pit of his gut as well as cursed curiosity. Squall was always mysterious. Kept to himself most of the time, barely even speaking about himself, which was fine by Cloud at first, but they had been traveling companions for months now. Something had to give at one point. And they had gotten...closer...somewhat.
Still, the man had his secrets, and usually Cloud wasn't one to snoop, but there was a feeling in his gut that told him that something bad was happening. And he was always the sort to follow his instincts. So quietly, so very quietly, he left his quarters. Softly clicking the door behind him with nary a creak of the hinges. His boots hit the wooden floors as quietly as he could muster as he followed the path down the stairs, into the lounge, where it was lightly lit and only a receptionist on deck. He nods to them as he passes, stalking out into the night to where he was now.
Tracking Squall wasn't easy. The man moved like a trained operative, almost like he had been a SOLDIER, but Cloud was sure that wasn't the case. The man had been trained elsewhere. Not here in Midgar or even in Wutai. Cloud continues to follow the trail left behind, as little as it is, to keep himself just enough feet behind the other as to not lose him, but also not spook him into fright. This lasted for several long minutes of going this way and that. They even circled the same area twice until the brunette stopped, turning around to face him with a frown.
"Were you following me?"
"And what if I was?" He asks, arms crossed as he takes a step closer. Squall could bolt, but Cloud would follow. He always did.
