The first time FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen almost stumbles across her is moments before she leaves the laboratory of virologist Dr Nina. She carries a cup of coffee in her hands, eyes marked by sleepless nights, and fingertips ready to throw a file onto Dr Nina’s desk. “ I need your opinion. ” Dr Nina grins. “ It seems I’m famous today. ”
There is little reason for the two agents to interact. The intersection only comes with a curious glimpse into both agents’ pasts; Elizabeth Keen who is born Masha Rostova, daughter of famous KGB agent Katarina Rostova -- and Moa Zhao’s own involvement with the committee of state security of the USSR that, although noted in top secret files, never is dated. Never quite defined. Her relationship to Raymond Reddington is hauntingly simple; he aids the FBI with finding some of the most notorious criminals and she in return has to find less corpses. And she’s always been a woman of ambiguous morality. Reddington knows she fought in the Red Army during the first world war -- and it takes simple math to discern the possibility of Moa Zhao and Milos Kirchoff to know each other, even if fleetingly.
Though whether the acquaintance truly is as fleeting as one hopes it to be is left for discussion. It is likely through Kirchoff that Tom Keen knows of Moa Zhao’s existence -- and she in return knows of his.
When Agnes Keen is brought into the picture, everything changes. The moral ambiguity that shapes the character of Moa Zhao becomes both her greatest value and outright downfall. What begins first as a unemotional contract, protecting the young woman, turns into nightmarish hell. Slowly but surely is the puzzle pieced together; the blank spaces in her files, the complete and utter political immunity, and then Agnes Keen shoots her. It’s an understandable action in a completely compromising situation. But nobody talks about how long she’s served the KGB and then it makes sense. She gets back up again. She lives.
-- Why is she not on the list?
RELEVANT.
i. follows main character stats. particularly important might be: fluent in russian, political sway on russian ground due to ( past ) loyalty to russian government, political sway on american ground due to current loyalty to american government, financial sway, academic degree in medicine, human biology, microbiology, and epidemiology.
ii. not necessarily knowledgeable of Elizabeth Keen! not necessarily knowledgeable about the details of the blacklist / the cooperation of Reddington and the FBI, and not a secret agent comparable to Tom Keen. Likely not knowledgeable about the imposter.
PREAMBLES.
i. currently watching season three. will adapt the further i go.
ii. will NOT alter moa zhao’s immortality. it might also be one of several reasons why her name has never made it onto the list -- because attempting to killing her is futile and attempting to imprison her may not shackle her for very long.
iii. the only agnes keen i’ll play with is @armorsworn. any other character is welcome to be thrown at me but chaos got me into this fandom so i’m sticking to one ( 1 ) fave lmao
❛ &. ┊ ᴛᴏ ʙᴏʟᴅʟʏ ɢᴏ ᴡʜᴇʀᴇ ɴᴏ ᴍᴀɴ ʜᴀs ɢᴏɴᴇ ʙᴇғᴏʀᴇ. What purpose serves eternity if it is spent glued to the ground? Mind excels at any task given at the Starfleet Academy -- but none is surprised, none particularly impressed. The bar is set high for a specimen that was born thirteen hundred years ago. So majors Moa Zhao in nearly all degrees available, masters the Kobayashi Maru scenario as one of the quickest students, and enters, eventually, the USS Enterprise as one of the most impressive students of the Starfleet Medical Academy. But is it not just the impeccable record that makes her stand out the most, instead is it her adaptability; she is a tool, perfected to the last detail to fit into whatever narrow space she is given -- and eventually is appointed Captain of the USS Oracle, a ship whose efficiency is almost frightening.

Let’s talk about the importance of gloves for Zarina’s character, meaning behind them, and why she always wears them. It’s quick, taking into consideration all verses. You can count that Zarina always wears some type of gloves until I mention that she doesn’t. As an example, this image is just a tiny part of what types of gloves she might be wearing, not including other styles and colors. Naturally, places where gloves aren’t worn like the beach are excluded and some at-home situations.
Zarina has been wearing gloves since she was a child. It started happening ever since her mother slapped her for showing off her powers to her out of fear. The cold hands of Zarina are a thing as she is an ice elemental, it’s a reminder of her to keep her ability at bay and to keep herself from leaving any fingerprints. She’s been growing up in a family of criminals, her knowledge of how leads are left and the evidence are showing up, Sokolova knows the importance of not leaving any marks of her being there. Not only do her gloves help her remember of her control and hiding her hands (powers), but it’s also helping her more efficient during her job. Gloves symbolize both her hiding her true self but also to keep her cold touch from being felt when she does use some of her powers in secret when the situation is dire.
Gloves are a way to control herself, a reminder that she is a human and she must remain a human. A chain, a limiter, an aesthetic choice, a way to protect her hands. Gloves act both in efficiency and symbolism for her. It’s an ever-present part of her clothing choice. Gloves have been a part of her, they are an essential part of her. She does have her hands nicely and beautifully manicured, which makes people question why she wears gloves. Its her habit. It’s always been a constant favorite piece of clothing she likes. If anything to add, Zarina loves gloves and she has a massive collection of gloves. It’s something she also collects for different outfits.
Gloves are important to Zarina and her character. From her childhood to military days to the current time. Gloves are always present. You can look at the pictures she’s taken with her family, she’s been wearing gloves on almost all of them besides pictures where she’s on the beach or she’s playing with the sand with Victor as a baby. Up until she’s like 8 years old she wears no gloves, but then right after that, she starts wearing gloves on almost all of the photos where they’ve been going out. Gloves are an extension of her, an important part of character for her.
