The Consequences of Bibs

Bohrok are cool. Their combiners are not. They don't even have names, look it up.

I was messing around with the Bohrok Kaita builds a bit and noticed something funny with the instructions.

The combination of Lehvak, Gahlok, and Kohrak, the Ice Bohrok, which will be referred to as Kaita A, clearly just uses most of a Lehvak for its head. Its such a reuse that they literally just tell you to go back to earlier in the book and reread those instruction pages, rather than reprint them, as this part of the instructions was in Lehvak's book.

This has the result of the Kaita A instructions being 80% of a bohrok shorter than the other one, so they have more pages left than the other combiner!

They make use of this with 4 pages with lots of nice story renders, 4 per page.

Now the second combiner, composed of Pahrak, Tahnok, and Nuhvok, referred to here as Kaita 1, has a bit of a difference. Much of the build of Kaitas A and 1 is identical, the main differences being in the arms and the upper torso. Kaita 1 also embeds Tahnok's face shield inside of Nuhvok's body.

This means that they can't just reuse parts of the main Bohrok instructions like Kaita A, which leads to the instructions overall being longer. To keep things simple they most likely wanted the instructions for all 6 sets to be the same length, so this led to a reduction in the number of pages devoted to the story renders, having only two.

They're much smaller also, they manage to squeeze 9 per page compared to Kaita A's 4.

But you may notice something odd there. 4x4 is 16, but 9x2 is 18!

That's right, despite having smaller images overall, and less pages, the Kaita 1 instructions actually contain MORE images. The hive cell about to burst and Onua and Whenua meeting at the Amaja Nui are exclusive to these two books.

Yes I said two. For poor Nuhvok, after the first two books cover the legs and head, has to show everything else, and thus only gets a single page of renders.

It shares the same format as the others of Kaita 1, but is super abbreviated.

So on this day let us all take a moment to appreciate little Nuhvok, the Bohrok that had to shoulder the bulk of its Kaita instructions due to the addition of a silly little bib, and as a consequence contained the least story renders of any of them.

Genuine Question for Dark Souls 2 Fans

Is Scholar of the First Sin edition actually worth buying for someone who has already played through and greatly enjoyed the original version of the game?

The reason I had picked the original version over Scholar (even though it + the DLC packs together is itself called "Scholar of the First Sin" edition lol) is because I had heard from multiple people on and offline that it has the more solid difficulty curve and overall "less bullshit" moments than Scholar. Now that I've played through DS2 original I can confirm that the difficulty curve is very smooth indeed, and I had and continue to have a great time with it!

That being said, a part of me is still curious to hear about how much Scholar actually changed compared to the original. The common complaint I hear is that this version feels more like a rom hack than an actual definitive edition in that it mostly just changes enemy and item placements (and adds a fuck ton more npc invaders).

So if any DS2 fans have played both versions of the game, please let me know if Scholar is worth it for me, or if I should just look for free rom hacks I can get for the version I already own instead ⚔️

Team Star version differences

As I watching someone play Pokémon Violet on YouTube, I realized something about Team Star

You know how the school uniform colors are different because the schools are different.

Naranja Academy is orange, white and blue for Scarlet

Uva Academy is Purple, silver and yellow for Violet

I noticed there are subtle differences in the Bosses of Team Star's outfits. Comparing them in both games, small parts on their outfits are different colors

Scarlet on left, Violet on right

Giacomo: His vest

Mele: Her collar and belt

Atticus: His pants

Ortega: His bow tie

Eri: Her tie

That's a cool little detail I wish I realized sooner.

In English language versions Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, the Teachy TV item mistakenly refers to the “KEY ITEMS POCKET“ as the “KEY ITEMS POKCET.“ This typo was never fixed in later revisions of the game.

Bionicle Toa Posters

Did you know that there are multiple variations of the poster that came with the Toa in 2001?

Version 1

I would consider this to be the first version, and in some ways, the best. It features the fullest view of the Toa art and has the least clutter, just the Bionicle logo, Technic logo, and the ID number. The numbers have a consecutive range of 4130827 to 4130832.

The backside of this poster to my knowledge can have two variants. The first is a general Technic advertisement sheet only focusing on Bionicle in one corner, I assume this is the first version based on the 2000 copyright. The second is a much more Bionicle focused image that can also be found on the backs of many Rahi instruction books.

So version 1 has two variants, I would consider the second variant the "Optimal" Bionicle poster, as it has the clearest view of the Toa and the most interesting Bionicle themed back.

Version 2

The 2001 copyright date makes me think this is a later revision. Many things were added in this version, there is now a trademark symbol beside the Bionicle logo, full copyright text has been added along side the ID number, which is now vertical along the left side of the page, the Technic logo has been shrunk and moved to the right, and at the bottom a strip has been added featuring all the Toa similar to what can be found on the canister, although they're named here.

This version seems to exclusively feature the second back layout, which would fit which it being a later addition.

Version 3

At first glance this poster would seem to be the same as the previous version, but there are several key differences. The easiest one to spot is the dropping of the Technic brand, as this is from closer to 2002 (though it still retains the 2001 copyright), when Bionicle became its own line, rather than a subtheme of Technic. The ID number has also been shifted from the left to the right, being placed over the Kopaka tile in the Toa strip. This is the only variation to actually be given a new ID number, though oddly the numbers are not consecutive: 41760[67 | 72 | 74 | 81 | 83 | 85].

In fitting with the 2002 theme the back of this poster prominently features the Bohrok and several newer Technic sets.

There is also a slight error where Kohrak was misprinted, still featuring the identifier they must have used when assembling the image:

And that's all the information I've managed to gather on the posters. My sample size isn't huge, roughly 13 but it seems to be consistent with what I've seen online.
