Punkrock from Luxembourg: Versus You
Versus You are one of the top-5 Pop-Punk bands from Europe. And they are recording a new album!
You toured a lot around the release of Moving On but went silent for the past months. What happened?
Like you said, we played a hell of a lot and I was writing a lot of songs between tours so we decided to take a break from touring and focus on new music.
Moving On entered the charts in Luxembourg and was received very well. Do you feel it is your strongest album in retrospect?
We're very grateful that so many people liked the record. I can't really say if it's our strongest. It has some of our strongest songs, I think. I still like it a lot but I'm not going to write the same record again. Moving On really captured our live sound. We always worked hard and tried to be a good live band.
You also toured in the UK and played shows there with Leftover Crack as well as with Hawthorne Heights in Mainland Europe. Can you tell us about your favorite shows in the past years?
I played a show with Blake Schwarzenbach. He told me he liked my stuff and we hung out. Jawbreaker has always been very important and influential to me. It doesn't get much better than that. We opened for Alkaline Trio once and we all hung out and got drunk listening to Fifteen's "The Choice Of A New Generation". I think we were a bit too rock and roll for the Hawthorne Heights crowd. The guys in the band were really sweet though. Punk Rock Holiday was one for the books and maybe my favorite Versus You show.
Are you recording new songs at the moment? When can we expect a new release?
We're actually rehearsing new songs for a concept EP that we'll record next month. I wrote five songs in five days that have a kind of 80's Replacements/Hüsker Dü vibe. I'm very excited. A new Communicaution album is being mixed as we speak.
Do you have upcoming touring plans?
Once we'll have new music out we'll surely tour. We have a few shows coming up though.
Eric, you also release constantly songs under the name Communicaution. When do you sleep?
Hardly ever! Haha! I never sit down and write a song. They happen, so I don't really have a say in the matter. These days I write a lot of songs in my head, strolling or on bus/train rides.
What else do you guys do beside playing music?
From reading books to skateboarding and everything in between. We all have jobs.
Luxembourg is a small place but with an active music scene. Can you recommend any other bands?I really like the new Fox record and Mutiny On The Bounty has always been a killer band. The Majestic Unicorns From Hell might be Luxembourg's loudest band and they're great. Noiseworks and G Chord Records put out really good music in Luxembourg right now.
