Common Spadefoot Toad (Pelobates fuscus) is the only tailless amphibian with vertical pupils on the territory of the Russian Federation.

When alarmed, it can exude a noxious secretion which smells like garlic, hence the common name "garlic toad".

Apparently, herbivores mostly have horizontal ones because it helps them see a wider view which would help them notice incoming predators or plan where they're gonna run to.

Also, circular ones like in humans are mostly for diurnal creatures which are mostly omnivores.
