Common Spadefoot Toad (Pelobates fuscus) is the only tailless amphibian with vertical pupils on the territory of the Russian Federation.
When alarmed, it can exude a noxious secretion which smells like garlic, hence the common name "garlic toad".

Bernd is a common spadefoot(Pelobates fuscus) also known as garlic toad. Why garlic? Well, if Bernd or others of his species get scared they yell really loud and than excude a secretion that smells a lot like garlic. Please don´t scare him otherwise your whole house will smell like garlic for a week. adopt a Bernd today
Enemy idea! He’s an empty garlic jar with some froggy bits sticking out. All alive, of course... There’s also a key in his stomach.
