Art at the End of the World: Day 04 of 21
John Constantine/ Vertigo Comics
Humanity wasn't born when we evolved a brain structure complex enough for abstract thought. Humanity was born when we started telling stories, and thus defining ourselves to the world. Creation myths started it all as humanity's first attempt to understand how we came to be.
The end of Hellblazer at #300 and Vertigo's Executive Editor and SVP Karen Berger "resigning", may be a symbol of the inevitable end of Vertigo. Considering she's helped bring out some of the best comics to come during 90's and so on speaks of her dedication to the medium and the people who love it.
As DC Entertainment focuses more on merchandising and branding and less with challenging the medium with provocative and challenging reads, I am reminded of what Grant Morrison said about stories: Mandrakk, the big baddie of "Final Crisis" wanted to erase the multiverse from existence. Grant Morrison said "He only wins when you run out of stories to tell."
With independent comics, it continues on. But a major corporation backed creator-owned imprint? I doubt it. Money has spoken.
VENUS - Million Miles Away
A beautiful song from one of the best belgian pop bands.
I'm currently listening to this, it's beautiful, very peaceful.
