Six Sentence Sunday

...not really. It's much more than six, sorry. I have a belly full of cioccolata calda and Pandoro, and 1980s AU Part 2 Electric Boogaloo with 2x heartbreak, a fast car and an evil sorta-fiancée is now at 14600 words!

Anyway! Here's a snippet from chapter 5, in which Giulia gets a new seat neighbour after she had a big argument with Daath and he refuses to sit near her in class. Enter Blaine (thank you @serialsforbellara for the perfect 80s name!), a very charming young gentleman dwarf!

I spent the lecture taking notes (a bit) and glancing over at Daath (a lot). He never looked at me. Instead he kept staring forward, as always idly twiddling his pencil between his fingers. My heart ached, a deep, dragging pain. How could one short meeting with a stranger pull up this kind of wall between us? Daath fought for my love, and I had allowed him back into my life despite all of his wrongdoings. Two days ago, warm sunlight prickling on our skin, we'd kissed in the surf, drunk on each other with not a worry in the world, and now—

The bell rang, jerking me out of my pondering. I shot a last look at Daath's back, sighed, and stuffed my stationery back into my bag. My new sketchbook sat at the bottom of my backpack, almost giving me an accusing stare. I hadn't used it yet, and I was definitely not going to inaugurate it by drawing a nice portrait of Daath anymore. How had everything become so complicated so quickly?

"Sorry if I seem too nosy, but you're not into Qunari, are you?" Blaine asked from the side, jerking his chin towards the exit. There was a hint of insecurity in his voice. "You kept gaping at the big one for two lessons straight."

"Well…" Oh I wasn't ready to disclose anything about my romantic troubles. Cheeks beet red, my brain defaulted to the first stupid joke that popped up. "You know what they say about Qunari. Can't blame me, right?"

Blaine laughed, his hand landing on my arm, just a feather light touch, gone in a second.

"Okay. But you also know that it's technique, and not size, that really counts between the sheets."

Our eyes met. I must have made the most shocked face, because Blaine laughed heartily.

"Sorry, Giulia. Didn't want to upset you. I just… I personally don't get the fascination with other races. There's maybe good reasons why they don't always mesh well."

"Yeah, maybe you're right," I answered automatically. He had a point, somehow. I'd been so caught up in the romance with Daath, so determined to make it work despite our glaring differences, maybe I had indeed lost focus of what was important?

Book 11 of HRB (which has Book 12 combined in Reeve's edition) is a very interesting one. As we all know, Arthur dies and he's succeeded by his nephew Constantine, who is followed by many more successors. Lots of infighting and civil war happens between the Britons and the Saxons. It reaches the point that King Cadualadrus and his people have to leave for Armorica because of a plague ravaging the land.

One of the most striking things here it's that it's not just Arthur's probable return that will usher the Britons going to take back their land at the right time, but it's also them bringing the relics and bones of many legendary saints (including King Cadualadrus' bones after he dies).
