I just keep telling myself that this is still the very rough first draft of my story, and it's okay for me to love some parts and seriously dislike others. Same goes for characters! I mean, you don't like every single person you meet in real life, some people really suck and need serious improvement! So the fact that one of my characters is a little turd right now is okay, we can work on them and get through this. *cringes at last paragraph on screen* It's fiiiine.
So I may have gotten a new plot idea during work, and I wrote a thing - but I don't know if I should continue with said thing...
Daylight
“Don’t touch me!”
Her words crashed into me with such force I almost felt like the whole house had collapsed around me. They cut, and crippled like a blade. The horror, the loathing in her her voice, I heard it, could sense it - like I had in so many others before her.
Who was I to dare to dream this time could be different?
“Please, please just calm down… calm, don’t shout.”
“Calm down!” Her anger flared up again and she spun around, golden brown locks cutting through the air. “I have every right to be yelling, to be angry. I have every right to not be calm!”
She was right, of course, she was, but that didn’t mean I was too. Yelling didn’t help - yelling always only made it worse.
“You do - but, please… Jay please let me explain.”
“Explain?” Her eyes darkened and I knew what was about to happen, it always did. “Explain this!”
All this time she had had been backing away from me but now Jayden surged forward, rushing up to me and taking my wrists in her hand, her grip tightened and my arm burned.
“Explain how you are a monster!?”
I didn’t want to look at my own arm, I knew what would be there anyway. I had seen it so many times before, willed it to go away. Stone, ash, dry cracks appearing along my skin, spreading from where her fingers gripped.
“How I can’t touch the person I love, how you can’t touch me - without turning into this?”
I could feel the rock, broken and cracking like clay move up my arm, over my body, my neck - restricting the muscle movements in my face.
“That is it - the simple explanation, love.”
She scoffed, finally letting go of my wrist. “You expect me to believe that you can’t touch me, because you love me?”
Breathing deeply I ran a hand over my arm, brushing off the ashen rock as if slowly turned to dust and dirt. “No - I can’t touch you… I can’t touch anyone, because you make me… happy.”
Jayden looked unimpressed but the anger was subsiding. “Happy - are you saying you turn into this, into stone - when you are happy?”
Brushing the dirt from my neck, I stretched, feeling the dust falling from my back and shoulder. “I know it sounds crazy, but I am cursed.”
She bit her lip and folded her arms across her chest. Jayden was thinking, I knew it - I knew that look, I has seen this in so many other people. I had seen this end in so many different ways.
“Who?”
“Excuse me?”
“Who - in their right mind would do that - curse you?”
My chest tightened and my mouth went dry, throat closing in as the words rang through my head. Shock, horror. No one, had ever asked who before. I didn’t like the answer, I didn’t like thinking about it.
