i love to say i’m torturing myself by posting art daily for the past month now but it actually has helped me a lot. not just in follower growth (i used to not post everything i drew which lead to me not posting a lot which leads to nobody finding my blog) but also in my quality and skills. like i’m no van gogh but ive learned to experiment more and have learned new techniques
like, the difference between august and (the end of) october is already insane enough
i’ve started experimenting more with poses, drew them more easily with no references, and most of all: started messing around with lighting and (textured) brushes. hell, i made some procreate brushes my own by figuring out what bothers me when using the originals
plus, i get things done faster. the fact that i post every day (unless i am not able to! i allow myself breaks by only posting doodles or sketches, i promise) helps me find ways to finish pieces faster. e.g. in the drawing on the right i didn’t bother with lineart. i now sketch in a way that is easy to clean up which saves time and helps me with not getting distracted because lineart BORES ME
i also found layer modes that work better than just using multiply and add. even if its not for shadows/shading but for a simple color adjustments like in these recent posts
on the left i just shaded below the lineart/sketch on the color layer. i later rendered over it and then used several layers to create a gradient over the drawing and also a couple more to make parts of it glow
on the right i was lazier but still used one layer to add the light to make the setting/drawing less bland
