Very belated replies to my angsting about original work!

Original work is such a different and difficult headspace isn't it? I don't have anything specific to add to the tag, just that I feel you.
It is!! Although I think maybe it shouldn’t be? When I talked to my enthusiastic-about-original-work friend after posting this, they actually chewed me out a bit (lovingly) because—well—why should original be that different? Yeah there are things you have to do, like set up the world and introduce the characters, but it shouldn’t be all work and no play. Since then I’ve been finding ways to make it more fun (making playlists, pinterest boards, thinking of details that amuse me) and it’s been really helping. I think I got so stuck in the “writing is suffering” mindset that I forgot it’s meant to occasionally be fun and that I’m allowed to seek out the parts that make it worthwhile for me, even if I’m not in self-indulgent fic writing mode. Anyway, it sucks you’re in the same boat---good luck! I hope you can crawl out of it. Since trying to change my mindset a bit I’ve been feeling a lot better, so I’d be happy to compare notes on doing so if it sounds like it might be helpful to you. c:

I don't really have the time for writing right now because of university (where I have to write a lot and I'm just too.. empty to compose my own stuff). But I want to get back in the game by rereading old stuff and editing the heck out of it. In doing so I hope to remind myself why I started that piece and maybe get inspired for new stuff~ Good luck with your writing!! <3
Ahhh, good luck when you go back to it! I’ll be rooting for you :D

good luck, val!! i'll go through your tag, too. and you know i'm not exactly a writer but i love to look up current trends in fashion / fashion designers / haute couture! sometimes they have elementsthat just sparks a new idea and it's like THIS IS HOW I WANT MY OC TO LOOK ...! or sometimes i just like to watch people on the street, how they walk and talk and be with each other. just observing and enjoying how cute and different people can be~ it always helps me
This is great advice! Being present in the world & observing things & mentally relating them to original projects... that could be very helpful. Reminds me of Jane Austen going to an art gallery and trying to find face bases for her characters, then writing to her sister about the results. (There were no Elizabeth Bennets...)

wow good on you for taking that first step in regaining your passion for writing!! can't wait to hear all about your inspiration and any upcoming writing, keep up the good work!!
It feels amazing to start addressing this to be honest! It’s very easy to get stuck in old habits that wear you down over time, so saying “this isn’t okay anymore and I need to change” feels like a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for your good wishes! I’m already feeling better Cx

i hope this will be helpful to you and others!! please scream at me about ideas if you'd like to!! i'm always excited about them and would love to hear what you're working on/planning on working on <3
When you first said this I was all [*weeps cause I never want to scream about my original ideas and that’s the problem*] but!!! Five days have passed of me actively seeking out what excites me in my work and I’m starting to get an obnoxious need to share, so I’m sure I’ll be crashing into your inbox someday :D
