Wasps on the brain...
Today is a very gloomy day, so I thought I'd draw something with my coloured pencils to get some more practice. There's something about a yellowjacket with red that makes it look so sporty. Along with Vespula intermedia, Vespula rufa is probably my favourite yellowjacket species. Wing highlights were done with a white posca pen/marker. Everything else is coloured pencils.
Turning 31 on the 25th!
I wish we got Vespula rufa in Canada. We do get Vespula intermedia, but that species is further up North. There's just something about a yellowjacket with red that I find highly appealing. It looks very sporty. Vespula rufa queen drawn with pastel pencils on pastelmat paper. Most people hate wasps, but I honestly love them. I think they are misunderstood.
What's so funny? 🤔 For some reason, I had this image in my head of a wasp killing itself laughing, so I decided to draw that. Obviously, wasps don't have eyelids, but I like to imagine that this is a similar phenomenon to pseudopupils. I like to imagine that all the ommatidia are there, but they are just indistinguishable from this view. Some positivity for today.
Once upon a time, there was a Vespula rufa that had Trypophobia. The end. 😁
Added a new member to the wasp family: Vespula rufa! I'm still learning with modelling clay and I've gotten better at doing the wings. I place the wings over top of the legs now as it doesn't bend them out of shape. So far, this is my favourite member of the group!
