can I pretty please post all my gorey pictures of veterinary emergency med cases so I can explain what we did to help them?? pretty please tumblr they're so cool (and gross)
I had to get creative with calling the animals I worked with little shits when they were being little shits because I worked with kids at my first job so I started saying "No Ma'am/sir" or "you little snot" or even just "make good choices" to these big ass horses and dogs I've worked with and it's traveled with me through petting farm to training barn to vet clinic to shelter med and I want to bestow the joy of saying "make good choices" to a dog that is clearly about to do some fucking shit and they actually make a good choice and get distracted by you instead
guys guys guys look at these puppies I got to meet oh my god I love them
Vet Internship!
Hi! So, I’m Syd. My high school gives us (the seniors) internship opportunities to go to workplaces around our community and learn valuable skills outside of the stuffy classroom environment. Being a big lover of animals and having an interest in medical fields of study and work, I decided to ask my local vet clinic. Thankfully, they were quick to say yes and help me on my way to interning for them!
Now it’s the night before I start my internship and I am so incredibly excited. My newly bought scrubs are folded and ready to put on, I’ve planned myself a smart, healthy breakfast, and my brand-new tennis shoes are ready at the front door! I start first thing in the morning at 8AM.
This blog is a good way for me to detail things that are happening in my day to day life at the vet’s office. I need to make a portfolio during my time interning, and part of that is telling my school internship supervisor about what happens during my work time. I’m much faster at typing than I am at physically writing, so I felt it appropriate to make a blog here and then copy it into a journal when I have the time! I also felt this would be helpful to anyone else who has similar programs at their school, or might be looking into a career as a veterinarian! Sure, this might not be the best source for specific details, but I hope it’s fun to read about my personal experiences!
I hope this blog is helpful or interesting to someone! For now, I have to get to sleep so I can get a full night’s rest. See ya! -- The Vet Intern
visited the school where i'll be doing my internship this year. things are getting real, and i'm so stoked.
Week 2 , Y5 Vet Intern
Sitting down to chart my journey in vet school, my perfectionist tendencies chides my loss of writing coherent prose unrelated to scientific study. Still, that's something to worry about another day.
Week 1 - I have never felt so alive doing something. At the same time it is brain scrambling to try to remember all things I learnt so as to pass my exams and now actually apply something usable to clinical life. Week 2 - A slow day has never been so painful. So many other things to do, but unable to as my time is dedicated to being an intern. Still meeting the patients have been a great highlight of my days. I am still reeling from fourth year and scrambling to get my 'life' outside of vet school back together. By this I mean to be building relationships with people, and more importantly my relationship with Jesus! No, I don't owe it to him, I want to because I see his goodness and I forget him everyday in my busyness. Thank God for grace! On to emergency shift for 2 weeks. I need to work something out.
Great second week! I learned about intubation, the benefits of animal dentistry, patellar luxations, reception work and anatomy. Thanks to everyone at River Ridge!
