(If you’re in the TUA fandom you might know about this author, so sooo good- huge amount of ficus mostly centred around Klaus Hargreaves. Then- not sure why- they deleted their account, so the fics are still there they’re just abandoned/published by anon so you can’t search by author to find them)

(This fic is a rather self contained part of a larger Detroit: Become Human AU series, but as someone who knows next to nothing about D:BH, I can agree with the author in saying you don’t need to know anything about the game to read this!)

Prompt: Valentine’s Day in Vietnam

Tags: Mostly fluff, with the tiniest hint of smut. A smut soupçon, if you will. Refs to drug-taking and heavy drinking. Really tame by my standards.

Author’s note: A short little slice of feels written especially for @enklavefest​. My first character fic and my first (mostly) smut-free work. Go easy on me. Enjoy!

Snippet: 

HE WAKES without opening his eyes at first, vaguely aware that he is, not for the first time, in a strange bed. Eventually, he opens one crusty lid, then the other. Immediately, the light pouring through the open shutters sears his retinas and he closes his eyes again, hands shooting up to rub them. When they come away, he notices his fingertips are blackened with kohl pencil.

The ceiling fan rattles gently as it spins, doing nothing to refresh the cloying, humid air. The noises of the bustling street below can be heard through the shutters; market sellers shouting loudly in a language he doesn’t speak, vehicles sputtering along potholed streets.

He rubs his beard and turns, spying the man in the bed next to him snoring softly, and slowly the pieces of the previous night begin to come together. Hazy fragments float across the surface of his mind, but the memory of skin on skin still lingers, like footprints on wet sand.

Unpublished: a TON. I have 2 more chapters nearly done for baby story, I’m up to chapter 18 on the only hope for me is you, two unpublished chapters to my Vietnam scar story, 1 unpublished chapter to my cystic fibrosis story, not to mention the countless chapters I wrote then deleted cause I hated them haha

12- Favorite character to write about this year? Toss up between Klaus (whom of which I ALWAYS love to write because duh lol) and surprisingly Dave has swiftly become a character I really really LOVE to write. He’s fun since we know nothing really about him?! So it’s cool to kinda shape him into who I think he would be! So they’re tied for sure!

19- Any new fics to start next year?

I have a LOT of ideas, but not sure what ones I’ll actually get around to. We shall see!

A- Bad things happen bingo (plan to do all of the ones on my card, fingers crossed)

B-Klaus gets diagnosed with cystic fibrosis

C-Klaus explores his abilities now that he’s sober. Unfortunately, they’re a lot harder on him than he expected. Debilitating migraines, nose bleeds, dizzy spells, seizures. They get so severe that his siblings (mostly Five, Ben and Diego) tell him he should stop using his powers. They fear they’re killing him. Klaus tries to listen and step back, easing up on using his powers. But his powers play by his emotions, and sometimes, he isn’t the only one in control of his powers (or-Klaus is able to be possessed by spirits.) but idk how I would go about this one?! So we shall see.

D- Klaus gets paralyzed during either a mission gone wrong / OR after the Rave with Luther / OR being attacked by a ghost who manipulates his powers somehow (like how Ben can tap into them) this one may just be a one shot?

E- finally want to re-start writing my Vietnam story that delves into how Klaus got his giant scar on his shoulder (solo mission gone wrong with Dave, short multi chapter; 7 chapters long)

F- 5x Klaus rallied around his siblings to lift their spirits and 1 time they did for him.

All of them are kinda sad to an extent 👀 I’m clearly a fan of whump and angst haha

23- Fics you wanted to write but didn’t?

I almost (almost) considered writing one where Klaus discovers he’s HIV/AIDS positive BUT decided against it because I just don’t think I would know how to properly do it without ruining it? It’s a tough subject so I’ll leave that up to a professional haha.

1. Do you listen to music when you write?

Yeah! I have to have music or some kind of background noise while I write or work in general.

3. Computer or pen and paper?

I used to be a big fan of writing on paper at first so typing it up would be a kind of editing round, but sometime within the last year or so I switched over to completely on computer. I like having it all with me, and since I was moving for school then going home for break so often carrying so many notebooks got difficult.

21. Who is/ are your favorite character(s) to write?

Honestly? I don't really know asljhdk. I think it depends on the situation. Serious situation? The person not paying attention is the best to write. Someone saying something dumb? The one off to the side rolling their eyes but not saying anything just to see what happens next is the best to write.

32. Most difficult character to write

The kind that have to be so unbelievably dumb or do something I hate thinking about for plot reasons. Jumping to conclusions? Telling someone you weren't supposed to tell them, unintentionally or not? Betraying someone? I physically cringe while writing it.

2.Are you a pantser or plotter?

A little of both! I have an outline generally but it’s fairly scant in some places (check out my Titanomachy outline screenshots for proof of that). I have broad stroke ideas most of the time/big points I want to be to and then I fill in the rest as I go.

12.  Describe your perfect writing space

I tend to write at my desk or my kitchen table. I like writing during the day so I can look out the window from time to time and I enjoy natural light, although writing at night with a little candle beside me makes me feel like Jo March or something lol. I do like to work with a mug of tea as well. 

21.  Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write?

Klaus. Probably not a shock to most lol.  I saw him episode one and Knew that was my character. Instant connection--  which was a bit of a surprise as I was expecting to favor Vanya going in (and I love Vanya very much). But Klaus is special. I love him for his complexity. He’s not perfect by far but oh boy does he have a lot of reasons for how he is and it is very fun to explore them. He’s dynamic, like how Klaus is selfish right up until he will die for his family without hesitation. I’m a sucker for any variation of asshole with a heart of gold and when you add tragic backstory to that???? Oh boy.

32.  Most difficult character to write

Hmm. For canon characters probably Luther. I just don’t feel as close to understanding him as everyone else so I struggle to keep him in character. I don’t like fics that make him evil so I try hard to avoid that. More difficult than that though is really my ocs. In the From the Brink series I have a lot of them and I try hard to make them feel real and interesting, especially because I know ocs can be a turn off in fic.
