Analgesia with opioids pro-tip
If it starts with B it's not for bones!!!
(ie: buprenorphine and butorphanol do not provide adequate pain relief for musculoskeletal issues - save them for visceral pain!)

Why won't you let me in your butt?!?
Me practicing manual pregnancy diagnosis on (understandably) unimpressed cows today
Little vet school things
Being glad I'm utterly exhausted because it will override the on-call anxiety and I'll actually get some sleep tonight
Me when I understand radiology: I am a mystical all-knowing being. Bow down before me and my mighty knowledge peasants!!! NO LESION CAN HIDE FROM ME, NO PROBLEM WILL GO UNSOLVED
Me when I don't understand radiology: I'm at least 56% sure that that is a thorax... 55%...
Everything I own smells like cows
Last day of freedom before dairy farm placement - not gonna lie, I’m gonna hate every minute of it
Vets and Meat
I’ve seen a fair few harsh opinions (and been told some straight to my face) suggesting that being a vet student, I shouldn’t eat meat or other animal products. Personally, I think that’s bullshit. I LIKE animal products. They’re really freaking delicious, and maybe one day I’ll change my mind but right now, I’m going to enjoy the delicious. Then I hear these people say “But.... you can’t REALLY care about animals then if you’re willing to see them abused in farming and then killed just for your pleasure!!!” Here’s the thing. I don’t want to see any animal abused. But what I’ve seen and learnt about is that there are ways to farm without being abusive. Sure, there are some bad eggs, but I don’t think there is anything inherently abusive about farming
In summary, I think that the best thing I can do for production animals is not to give up all animal products altogether, but to make informed choices and to learn everything I can about animals and farming, so that I can go on to work with the agricultural industry to grow the happiest, healthiest animals we can.
