Back home.

Vey trotted sluggishly down the hall of the apartment complex that he called his home. His gold eyes were blood shot and his normally pristine red coat was now matted in some spots. This is the last time I volunteer to stay late. He yawned as his hoof ran through his messy black and green mane. He finally came to a brown door that matched ever other door on his floor, opening it slowly Vey entered into small white washed living room that held little to no furniture expect for a small couch a chair and a dining table. Laying on the couch, her chest rising and falling rhythmically was Vey’s beautiful mare. Her coat was a beautiful Indigo and her eyes were a lighter shade of her coat and to Vey almost looked like small lakes. Vey smiled to himself as he removed her trade mark Stetson hat and placed it on the coat rack. Vey gathered the sleeping mare in his arms and moved her to their bed where he tucked her in and crawled in next to her.

“I love you Indy.” He whispered as he kissed her forehead gently causing her to open her eyes blearily.

“Vey? When did you get home?” She moved closer and nuzzled his chin.

“Not too long ago love” He kissed her gently and held her close.

She closed her eyes and smiled as she tucked her head under his chin and placed her chest against his until they were close enough to feel each other’s hearts beating. With the last of her energy she intertwined their tails and kissed Vey’s neck before his body heat rocked her to sleep.

First snow.

The snow gently blanketed the ground out side of a one bedroom apartment as the two ponies inside tried to stay warm.

“I-I can’t believe the heat went out again.” A red Pegasus shivered as he check each of the windows and doors for leaks.

On the floor staring into a dying fire place was a beautiful earth pony mare, her indigo mane hung down over her shoulder free from the usual stemson she wore. She shivered visibly as she tried to stay warm.

“V-vey?” she asked through chattering teeth. “W-will come here for a bit?”

Veyron trotted over to her and nuzzled her cheek. “Of course I will love.” He pulled a small blanket off of their couch and stoked the dying fire as he laid down next to his fiancée and draped the blanket across both of them.

“Better?” He whispered as he nuzzled her cheek.

Indigo nodded as gave him a quick kiss and laid her head across his forelegs as she let out a content sigh. She slowly let sleep take a hold as her stallion laid his wing across her back and rested his head on hers.

“I love you indy.” He whispered as his own eyes closed.

“I love you too.” She whispered back as a small smile graced her muzzle.

Far from you 3/?

Indy trotted into the room that Vey was in and almost broke down at the sight of her lover hooked into a tangle of wires and tubes.

“V-vey, what happened?” She sobbed as she rushed to his side and grabbed his hoof. “Please wake up” She pleaded.

But his golden eyes remained closed and his sweet voice did not caress her ears.

“V-vey, I need you… Please.” Indy laid her head on his chest as her tears started to soak his crimson coat. In her mind she heard his laughter and felt his lips on hers, she felt his hooves play with her mane as they cuddled on a rainy night. And then she felt the cold of the large bed when he was not there, the feeling of waking up not to his kisses but to silence and emptiness.

Please don’t take him! I don’t want this to end. She thought as she held onto the colt that had wandered into her life and flipped it upside down. She buried her face into his furred chest and breathed in the sent she had grown to like. She didn’t know why but it had a calming effect on her.

Indy crawled up next to him and cradle his body gently. I won’t leave him! No matter what happens. She thought as she again laid her head on his chest as her ear was filled with the weak thumping of his straining heart. She closed her eyes and focused on the only thing that let her know that there was hope for his life even when she could feel the darkness pressing in. If he goes then I go. She thought as her mind drifted into as dreamless sleep, his beating heart was all that filled the dreamless void.

The Return.

Vey watched the dark sky intently as thunder and lightning split the sky above. It had been three weeks of hard tracking to find this monster and then another two to tame it, but now this churning mass of black clouds and cold rain was in its death throes and what a sight it was. It had started with the usual flight maneuvers, destroy a few support clouds, disrupt the air flow and then finally enter the heart of the storm and destroy the core cloud, which was easier said than done. Vey looked up as another bolt of lightning lit up the sky turning night into day for a fraction of a second, it was followed by the roar of thunder as if the storm was crying out in anger about the pony who had cut its rampage short.  Vey smirked as sun light began breach the layer of thick black clouds that had been choking it out for so long. It won’t be long now. Vey thought as he reached into his saddle bag for his map that he had made while chasing this storm only to have it ripped from his grasp as the storm gave its final death raddle. Well shit how I am going to get home now?

Goatee

Vey stared at the small spot of black fuzz on his chin. Shave it or leave it? He contemplated as steam filled the bathroom from the running shower head.

“Hey Indy!” He called for his mare as he looked at his reflection.

It wasn’t long before he heard the sound of the bathroom door creaking open as Indigo trotted in her mane hanging down and still damp from her shower earlier.

“What is it love?” She blew a stray hair out of her face.

“What do you think? Should I shave it or leave it?” He motioned to the small goatee on his chin.

“You know what I think.” She draped her front legs over his shoulders as she pulled him into a deep kiss. One that sent shivers up her spine as she pulled back and then reconnected their lips. The two lovers did this several more times until Indy broke the kiss for the last time.

“That’s what I think. Now get in that shower we have lots of shopping to do.” She said as she left him in the bathroom.

Ok so no to shaving it then. Vey thought as he hopped under the hot water.

  “Oh and if you hurry you might get a treat tonight.” Indy Shouted from their bedroom.

Vey smiled as he washed himself faster than he had ever done before.

Far from you: Part 2.5/3

Indy hated hospitals especially when the pony she loved was in surgery for several hours. She looked up again as a nurse trotted though a set of double doors. Her imagination’ kept playing out scenarios were the nurse would trot up to her with that stupide look of sympathy that would not help cushion the blow of being told that her lover had died on the operating room table. Please be ok love. She plays with the dog tags she had given him as a symbol of her love.

In a small dark circular room a red Pegasus lays on a cold metal slab, a slow rhythmic call of a heart beat monitor is the only indication that he is alive as doctor’s work feverishly to repair the internal damage caused by his crash landing.

“Suction please.” The unicorn surgeon asks as he stiches up the last open incision in the other ponies body.

He uses a small hose to remove the rest of the dead skin and excess blood as he prepares to close the outer opening.

“Ok we are good. Take him to the ICU… I need to talk to the mare outside.” With that the unicorn leaves to find the mare that had rushed in demanding to see the red stallion.

Indy looked up as she heard hooves approaching and spotted a cream colored unicorn with a tired look in his eyes and dirty mask hanging from his muzzle. “Miss Indigo cards I presume?” He asked as he stood in front of her.

Indy only nodded weakly as she braced herself for the worst.

“We were able to save him and stop the internal bleeding, however I will sugar coats this. He was in a bad spot when they brought him in.” The doctor took a seat near her. “Frankly I am surprised that he did not lose as wing or his life during the operation.”

“I-is he ok now doc?” She asked weakly.

“Yes he is no longer in danger, but he is in ICU and I can’t let you see him tonight.”

Indy nodded in understanding as tears formed in the corners of her eyes. “I guess I will be back here tomorrow.” She sniffled as she trotted to the hotel that she was staying in.

Flashback: Before Indy.

The red Pegasus ran as fast as he could in the freezing rain as he tried desperately to distance himself from that place with each hoof fall. How could I have been so stupide? He berated himself as he ran. Of course she was just using me! His legs and hooves had lost feeling a couple miles back and now were only operating on auto pilot. But why did it have to be my best friend? The tears that ran down his face contrasted sharply with the freezing rain as he tried to blink them away. I loved you! His mind flashed back to almost an hour ago to when he had walked in on them.

“W-what!”

“Veyron i-it’s not what it looks like.”

“Don’t lie to him dear he’s a big stallion… Your mare never loved you, you were just a place holder.”

“Buck both of you!” He remembered running out at that point with her pleas for him to stay chasing him down the hall.  And now here he was still running from all the pain that she had caused him. To him it felt like a steel knife had been plunged into his chest and then twisted until his heart was left as nothing but a bloody pulp. I-I thought she had been the one. We started so good…. Where did I go wrong? He could hear his voice coming out in ragged breaths as he ran and part of him wanted nothing more than to just drop dead right then and there.  I-I should have known… I mean the way she would look at him when we were all hanging out. Vey’s heart pounded in his chest as if it to wished to escape the pain that it was swimming in. Vey’s legs finally gave out as he came to a sliding halt in the gutter of the street, he sat there letting his coat soak in the dirt and mud and shame that he felt. As he lay there a small piece of paper floated into his field of vision and out of curiosity he snatched it up. Wanted: ponies who are not afraid to risk life and limb to help their fellow Equines. Lifes little surprises: month 1

“A-are you sure Mixtria?” Vey asked as he pulled the black tuxedo over his sleek form as he looked at himself in the mirror.

“Yes Vey I am sure… don’t you want to look good for your bride to be?” Mixtira replied as he polished his hoof on his pale yellow coat.

Vey smiled at the thought of Indy in her wedding gown and how nice it would be to settle down with her.

“What’s with the smile Vey?” Mixtira asked, his head cocked to the side.

“Just thinking about how Indy makes me feel…. Heh it is funny really I mean I used to go everywhere and I was never tied down, but for some reason she has hooked me in and has kept me tied to her.” His eyes shined with love for the mare he spoke of. “I-I really don’t know how to explain it but she makes me feel like I don’t have to run anymore… She makes me feel like I have a home.” He shook some of the tears out of his eyes as he looked at himself in the mirror one last time. “I think I like this one Mixtira.”

Mixtria smile and nodded as he got himself a similar tux.

Half way across town two mares tried on dresses as they planned for the wedding.

“What do you think Indy? It has lace like you wanted.” Silvy said as she spun around in her own silver dress.

“I like it…. But will Vey?” Indy asked in a worried tone as she thought about the goofy stallion who had captured her heart.

“I think that colt would marry you in nothing but a bowtie if you let him.” Silvy snorted in laughter she made sure the dress hugger her form so that she could impress some of the colts at the wedding.

“True.” Indy laughed. “But I love my big oaf… I don’t know what it is about him but he has made me feel like I actually matter… I mean he is so gentle and sweet and loving to me. I remember the first night I had with him he was so nervous but sweet and I was worried that in the morning he would be gone. But he stayed and told me that he loved me.” Indy’s voice was shaky as she played the events of that night in her head.

“He sounds like a keeper then.” Silvy smiled as she took her friends hoof. “Also I think the foal will love him as its father.”

Indy smiled happily at the vision of her lover playing with their foal. “Yep no matter what he says I know Vey will be the best father and husband he can be.”

Indy and Silver trotted up to the counter and purchased their dresses before heading out to grab a bite to eat.
