A formation of F4F-4 Wildcats of Fighter Squadron 24 (VF-24) in flight near NAS Floyd Bennett Field, New York. 28 April 1943.

Established on the last day of 1942, the squadron later transitioned to F6F Hellcats, and served on board USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24) and USS Santee (CVE-29). 9), including service at the Battle of the Philippine Sea and Okinawa. VF-24 was credited with 37.5 kills during WWII.
