“Was that your quirk?! It looked amazing!” Izuku really couldn’t help it. Old habits tended to die hard, and the temptation to record more notes about quirks was honestly too much. “E-Excuse me, but I haven’t seen you before!”

He was taken aback when she turned around and wrapped her arms around his waist. But it didn’t take long for him to return the embrace. Holding on to her seemed like an instinct now. Now that life had cruelly reminded them that they weren’t kids anymore. That their actions as wannabe heroes had consequences toward those that they held close if identities were leaked. When he realized that his abilities weren’t enough to keep his most important person safe. 

‘You aren’t going to do something stupid, right??’ The muffled question came suddenly, leaving him speechless for a moment before he let out a weak laugh. What else could be more stupid than angering the well-known heroes after they refused to help him? But the longer he thought about her words, the more he began to realize what her words truly meant. 

               Was he going to do something stupid and try to get revenge? 

                                                                                         Maybe.

And as her grip tightened, he realized this would be the last time they would be this close. That once he made his decision, she wouldn’t stand by his side anymore. In the end, it would look like he abandoned her. He would know from experience that the people who promise the most, always end up leaving. “Of course not.” A lie. He’d never been in this position before and he wasn’t sure what to do. If he told the truth she’d try to stop him. But if he lied and disappeared without a word, she’d think he abandoned her. He’d lose her either way.

So instead, he closed his eyes, holding her closer and pleaded. Prayed that his future actions wouldn’t make things harder for the girl when they met again. Though it was useless.

My muse has been having the same nightmare for weeks now and it’s taking it’s toll. Send me “You look exhausted.” for my muse’s response.

Honestly? Izuku, at this point, really wanted to turn around and snap back how exhausted he actually was. Either that, or just start to cry. Knowing his track record with tears - he’d never really kept his word about stopping the entire crybaby thing - it was more likely going to be tears at this point.

All the teenager could dream about was that one attack on the USJ. Over and over in his head, his dreams haunted him - teasing him with what could have happened. Dreams on not getting to All Might in time, dreams on Mineta and Asui being crumbled into dust, watching Aizawa-sensei’s head being slammed into the ground again and again, to the point where he simply never moved again.

It had been roughly two weeks since it started - and Izuku was lucky if he got about an hour or two worth of sleep before shooting up, the cold sweat and tears taking over and keeping him awake for the rest of the night. It was having some impacts on his school performance now. Stuff like dozing in class (Kacchan’s explosions usually put a stop to that...) along with sloppier movements during hero training - he just couldn’t control his tired body. As always though, he’d pretend everything was fine, because that is what he always did.

“I’m alright! I’m not really tired-” Izuku had to fight very hard to not yawn; and was fooling himself. His skin was near white, the purple bruising around his eyes rivalling his teacher’s. “It’s really no big deal, but thanks!” Izuku even gave a shaky smile for good measure. He’d persist with it until the end.
