Even the work of cleaning up for winter can be beautiful! Woody hydrangeas in our neck of the woods tend to develop a beautiful shade of pink or green before succumbing to the brown of winter.

Mom and I had fun working on mug cozies together. Mom did a LOT of sanding to make the buttons smooth. The wood discs came from a cherry tree branch on the land we are clearing. Waste not, want not! Besides, it was fun making something from "nothing"! Coming up, solid color cozies! Have a color you especially like? Let me know. Maybe it will show up on the Etsy shop!

The promise of harvest. So many yummy things coming up! Zacusca, Baba Ganoush, fried eggplant slices, gumbo, ratatouille, eggplant parmesan, yeah. You name it, we make it! Just the long wait for this little guy and his friends to finish growing.

What happens when you take fresh lemon balm, add hot water, and a plate of Scottish biscuits and mango? A delightful supper!

Some days even the cat has to smell the flowers. :)

Not sure what this variety of basil is, because it was a serendipitous seed find at the Christmas Tree Store last year. It's from somewhere in Europe, but written in multiple languages I can't understand. (more shame to me!) I'll tell you this, we're gonna grow it again! Very mild, very yummy, with big enough leaves it fooled more than one person into thinking it was lettuce! Some of the best sandwiches EVER.

Late summer and early fall find parts of the harvest drying in random places. I love the mix of colors in these trays and baskets! Beans, sunflower seeds, and peppers...what a mix, and yet what beauty.
