Well now, I've finally just finished the new chapter of Cantata, and I can say with complete certainty... that the cliffhanger was about a 1000 times worse than the last one. But it was so good. One might even say you know just how to, as song says, "hurt so good". I won't say that though because it would probably just come off weird and creepy. Never the less, I did thoroughly enjoy it. And here are some things I particularly loved, so spoilers.
I loved the new Vicente content. It was an absolute treat to fight with him in the warehouse. Though I chose a water attuned this time, and it has some of the best content, but the fight scenes are a bit... subdued as compared to my other previous playthroughs with air and fire attuned MCs. They aren't bad by any means, and this is just personal preference. Still, I would love to see how that plays out with a different fighting style. Then again, I am eager to see the rest of the large battle with a different fighting style as well. Needless to say there will be multiple playthroughs.
Of course I also loved my dearest Corinne's sweet letter. Considering I was going with that romance route, I loved that we could write her a letter back. And then the later scene where she mentions that she loves communicating with letters. I did enjoy the fact that I was able to sign the response as "With Affection". Though I kind of would have liked to have signed it as "Affetto". Just for a sneaky little hint at MC's true identity.
Speaking of the word "Affetto". I accidently named my best badger buddy Affetto. Some context... So a naming convention I tend to use with pets and such in IFs is taking an English word that suits them, then translating it into another language. Of course this time I chose Affection, because it fit, and translated it to Italian, because it fit. Thus his name became Affetto, and I did not remember it was part of the Iredicci dialect. Of course later I looked in the Codex and was like, "well... ok I guess." It did lead to some unintentionally humorous lines though. Considering how the Iredicci would use the word.
And the really big thing that kind of crept up behind me was the absolutely excellent easter egg for Viatica. Bayram just casually throwing that out there when speaking of how he likes giving people names was just to die for. I have read the updated version Viatica and enjoyed the Cantata Easter eggs there, especially the one in the Ferret expanded epilogue. I find it amusing that MC read the story of Cantata and Ferret hadn't. Makes me wonder what her favorite books are. As well as the the other ROs as well. I'm pretty sure Robin's favorite is Poetry. Lion would probably be into Philosophy. I can see Heron enjoying tails of adventure and daring. As for my dearest Ferret, perhaps children's books. I can see her reading things she would like to read to her daughter. Though of course these are just my thoughts and I'm totally getting off track. Point is, I'm glad you are still putting those little easter eggs in your stories.
Well, now I must endure the agonizing wait to find out what fate has in store for the Sideris family. And if MC will spontaneously burst into song in front of everybody to cope with all the emotions at the end there, Not because they aren't thinking about hiding, but because they need this damn it so they just don't care if they have some explaining to do later. That is totally what I would do anyway. Anyway, stay healthy and happy.
Best Wishes
Lilith
The water fight scenes are definitely more subdued. I wanted a fighting style that was more defensive in nature, for those that didn’t want to go full aggressor, and water seemed the best fit.
I wanted the fighting styles and attunements to feel very different to make the game more re-playable. I didn’t want just cut and paste [insert word] sort of thing. If you’d rather take more initiative, I suggest trying an earth or air playthrough. Earth and air are definitely the most offensive fighting styles, and fire is somewhere in the middle.
