i've got a fully fleshed au and a few people asking me questions about it, so i might as well use this as an excuse to go nuts about it soo...
here's me rambling about my wordgirl teenager/high school/future teenager au!!
SAL'S W✪RDGIRL FUTURE AU 💭🌟
...i'd come up with a better name for it but y'know my ass is not doing that 😍 my au is set about 5-6 years after the original show. there are a lot of changes in fair city, but the most important gags and details are still the same. i'm very loose with the exact year, but i've said before it's the early 2010s. an exact year frame would be 2011-2013. i think 2012 is probably the most accurate year.
the kids are juniors at woodview high, aged about 16-17. to be more specific: becky is 17, tobey is 16 1/2, scoops is 16, and violet is 17.
becky's still wordgirl ofc. she's not as energetic as she was before since being a high schooler and superhero is not an amazing combination. but she's still doing very well for herself! i've also had a bit of conflict as to whether or not i want bob to be dead (i love monkeys so this is a hard decision)... but i'm currently leaning on the "bob's dead, becky has to do things on her own now" thing 💔 if i write more tobecky stuff, i'll probably make this part of the story
but he would definitely be alive at the beginning. i believe he would just slowly be getting older and older, unable to accompany becky as CHF. it would be a defining, hard to navigate moment for her as it would take a hard blow on her mental health.
although becky would go through many struggles in this. i know a lot of people don't care for violet and her friendship with becky, but i believe their friendship only strengthened through middle school. this means scoops, violet, and becky's friendship becomes unbreakable. this makes it hard for both of them when violet begins to take dual-enrollment classes... aka college work and high school. sometimes she doesn't have time to hang out. scoops probably plans to go to college as well -- and yeah, most teens struggle with deciding on a path for the future, but becky struggles most. she wants to go to college (possibly in another city), but she thinks she'll find it harder because she's a superhero. how could she leave fair city? even if she does go to college, how will she find excuses to leave to stop crime? it's just too much.
and at this point, she'd have no huggy to talk to ☹️ so she feels just sort of lonely at times.
alongside tobey, becky is in the speech & debate elective. violet is in fine arts, scoops is in writing.... don't ask me about eileen and victoria because i honestly haven't thought much about what electives they'd pick 😭 rose is also in writing
it wouldn't be wordgirl without villains!!! ☝🏼 so ofc we still have our favorite top villains (dr 2brains, the butcher, chuck, etc.). some might have advanced rankings, some actually might be slowly backing away from the scene. realistically there would probably be new villains too but you'll never catch me writing out a new wordgirl villain..... i was struggling to make a villain oc because coming up with a clever one that seemlessly fits in the show is so hard.
for example, tobey is the best example of someone who starts to slowly exit the villain scene. i explained this in a reply, but puberty hits tobey like a train. he spent his younger years being reckless and irresponsible -- so now his body is betraying him. if you ask me why my tobey has curly hair, it's because it's hit him during puberty. his hair texture just... poof bitch 🌬️ changed. another example is motion sickness. tobey spent his childhood standing on top of giant moving robots? sorry bitch. MOTION SICKNESS 👻👻👻👻
so he gradually starts playing a bit nicer, not committing as much crime at the beginning of the au. if he does, he'll be hiding away with a remote control from a distance like......
TOBEY, through the speaker of his robot: "Wordgirl! There you are! I was wondering how long it take you to show up."
WORDGIRL: "Tobey!"
(WORDGIRL looks around for Tobey, confused)
WORDGIRL: "Uh..."
(TOBEY sits at home, in front of a screen. He points at the robot's chest, where the speaker is.)
TOBEY: "Eh... Right. I'm-.... The speaker. Right here."
WORDGIRL, looking around: "What?"
TOBEY: "No, no, no! I'm not physically there-- I-- Uggggh. Turn around! Turn around!!"
WORDGIRL turns around again, facing the robot: "I still don't see you."
TOBEY, annoyed: "Look up!"
(WORDGIRL looks up at the robot's chest, where she finds the speaker. She instantly realizes he's not even there in person and is instead controlling his robots from home. There is three beats of silence before she sneers and teases him.)
WORDGIRL, snorting: "What? Too lazy to get out of bed today?"
TOBEY, embarrassed: "Wha- No!"
and eventually he starts becoming lactose intolerant so it's really #tobeover for this guy. i like bullying him 😛
also on tobey... he fully stops villainy, as mentioned in my latest fic "Some School Dance or Whatever" (which you should totally read if you think i'm cooking). i don't wanna say too much about the specifics on it because i'll eventually write more on them....... but it's something he chose to do. it's part of a promise to becky made before they started dating. he doesn't know she's wordgirl but oh boy, will he figure out in a bit. it will be. um. messy 😍 he has stopped though and that's (probably?) the biggest "i'm going straight!" thing with any of the wg villains
while they are dating, tobey makes smaller-scale robots. or just tinkers with new types of things that can satisfy that itch in his brain that makes him want to build things
victoria plays an important role in this as well. i don't mention it much, but i distantly enjoy becktoria. i also like angst. sorry victoria, but i think she won't act the happiest when those repressed gay feelings come out when becky gets with tobey 💔💔 hashtag onesided
on a happier note, here's some fun little tidbits i wrote out last year for it:
pretty princess and magic pony power hour is still going. strong. very strong. it probably ends in her senior year. think of it as being like the mlp of the time
and yes, becky is STILL the biggest fan. where do you think all her money is going? #merchcollector
granny may is alive.
tj is 14, moody, and going through the roughest emo phase becky has ever seen. she's like "wtf happened to you"
gender crisis is beating scoops' ass (it's the early 2010s. horrible time to be having one.)
exposition guy and his wife have two kids
rose and scoops are having the craziest (friendly) writer's rivalry bond going on. it's scary.
violet likes to draw and play
captain tangent, who everyone doubted to take crime seriously, begins to rise ranks
THIS IS MY FAVORITE GAG. glen comes back but no longer as a dr 2brains fan and it kinda pisses dr 2brains off. glen's comeback is centered around being the butcher's #1 fan. they both argue anongst each other and the butcher is standing between them like "um how did i get in the middle of this 😰"
THIS IS MY SECOND FAVORITE GAG. yes, chuck is still villain-ing it out (he's my favorite villain 🫶🏼). still going through some serious brother issues, chuck tries to compete with brent. it's the strangest move he has ever made in his whole villain career.... but he introduces a new product. think of it as villain merchandise. "no bread, just crust."
it flops.
bigslie wedding that happens early into the au. wordgirl is baffled but she's invited to it.
more on that one... mr big's fuckass self is thinking "you know. there will be a lot of people at my wedding. how about i mind control them 😍 maybe if it works, i can both get married AND rule the city with her 😍😍 let's make it a surprise for her 😍😍😍" (what's wrong with him)
leslie is not at all surprised, disappointed, or sad when mr. big pulls out the ray when they're reading vows... and when it fails, she just says "this is what happens when you don't consult me about your crimes, sheldon"
but it's okay because the villains happily celebrate their marriage in jail (wordgirl stops by too ofc)
