The show's version of Helaena doesn't really do anything either! She just spouts prophecies that no one understands—so they have no impact on the narrative—and on top of that, Ryan Condal couldn't even manage to accurately portray what a "dreamer" actually is! Helaena doesn't even function like a dreamer from GRRM's universe! The show *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* done that's better!
For the record, the book version of Helaena fully supports the usurpation; she has a voice, and offers advice to Aegon II with Alicent.
She clearly has a sense of humor (like in the scene where the guards are searching for Aegon II).
She adored Dreamfyre and would ride her dragon.
I should also point out that, normally, when Helaena dies, Dreamfyre loses it. In the show? Nothing at all. Oh wait. We have something in fact. Stupid butterflies for Alicent.
She had a genuine relationship with her father, Viserys.
She faced a real dilemma regarding her children. She was consumed by shame and grief over choosing to sacrifice a son—who ended up being kept alive anyway.
And Rhaenyra seems to held some affection for her too, calling her "sweet sister." And even if it might not mean anything, the idea of exploring a potentially genuine dynamic between Helaena and Rhaenyra—however small—is interesting.
Oh, and Helaena even shared a bed with Aegon II. That’s not to say they had a truly positive, loving relationship—as "Team Green" fans like to claim—but she was certainly more complex than the show makes her out to be.
Sorry, but the book's Helaena is simply a far more interesting character than the show's version. So, the idea that "Helaena in the series—being a dreamer—is so much better than the Helaena in the books, who does nothing—we have to be honest" is bullshit.

Not enough people are disgusted by how little time we see dreamfyre. When they could have given us one good meaningful moment when Jaehaerys was cremated by his mother with his grandmother by his side. Just disappointed we only get to see that particular dragon once.

in another world, helaena and jaehaera flee on dreamfyre to a remote village, bringing along morghul and shrykos. the dragons offer protection and fire in the cold winter months, and the villagers offer their discretion in turn. helaena and jaehaera make an old abandoned farm their home, where helaena gives birth to maelor. his late brother’s dragon is bonded to him. they live a peaceful life raising chickens and studying nature.
AND NO DREAMFYRE SNAPPING HER CHAINS OUT OF GRIEF FOR HELAENA!!!!
