The journey back to Taal's Horn Keep was uneventful, as usual. Injured and exhausted after culling a few thousand Skaven, the Ubersreik Five---or whichever four of them had gone out---would limp back to the old fortress, tend to their wounds and collapse into their beds. What made this return trip different was their "guest": a Skaven female who somehow left her clan's breeding pit.

Markus Kruber, having broken a leg during an earlier mission, was left behind at the keep. As the sun began to set, he moved himself to sit out in front of the gate and waited for the others to return. Bardin appeared first, eager to swap stories with Kruber over drinks later. Kerillian and Sienna walked together, struggling to muffle their laughter and conceal their wide grins. Kruber inquired, but the ladies just scurried away.

Saltzpyre's stove-pipe hat appeared over the crest of the hill before he did. Even from this distance, Kruber could feel the old witch-hunter's cold gaze upon him. Judging by the women's behavior, he assumed something happened---to the embarrassment or frustration of Saltzpyre, but to their delight.

"Sir," Kruber sat himself upright before giving a salute. "Welcome back. What news from--"

Catching glimpse of the giant Skaven trailing Old One-Eye, Kruber ignored his current condition and sprang into action. "Sir! Rat Ogre behind you!" he cried out.

Kerillian and Sienna had utterly lost it, bursting with laughter from inside the keep.

"At ease, Sergeant," Saltzpyre grunted with a wave of his hand. "This one is for questioning."

"...Sir??" Kruber questioned. He saw no wounds on the giant rat's bulky frame or any sort of bindings on its limbs. How could his companions---or perhaps Saltzpyre alone---have taken such a monstrous Skaven captive?

"As I said, this one is for questioning," Saltzpyre reaffirmed. "Do not make me repeat myself again, Sergeant."

Despite severe confusion, Kruber took the witch-hunter at his word and sat back down with a grunt.

"Gentle strokes... don't let the ink bleed through the parchment, dear," Daichi hummed softly, guiding his little daughter's hand across the paper. She held the brush in her tiny, chubby fist, her face scrunched up in concentration.

"Ah, there! And that's how you write my name in my language! Look at you, already so skilled with an ink brush," Annalise's father beamed, kissing her on top of her head.

"Will I learn how to do more of this, papa?" The fluffy, blue-haired girl asked, rubbing her cheek with the back of her hand, and inadvertently smearing some ink across it.

"Of course, sweet one. When the time is right, your mother and I will take you back to my home, and we'll learn about everything there! The language, the food, the culture...I promise."

"Ow, ow...." Annalise hissed, dropping the hammer and sticking her reddened, swollen finger in her mouth. Her makeshift pig pen hardly looked like a pen at all: the wooden stakes in the ground leaned and sagged, and the boards making up the fence were lopsided, some barely hanging on in the first place. And now, she had busted her thumb trying to hammer even more nails into the wood to desperately keep it together.

"I don't think I'm cut out for building..." She groaned, plopping down onto the ground. Smudge, still small, but growing, stepped through a gap in the fence, nudging Annalise's hand. The girl smiled weakly, scratching him behind his ears.

"....But I'll keep trying. So you can have a nice home!"

His teeth chewed at his lip...he lingered between thoughts. Tricky situation, trying to explain something so messy to a god who hadn’t any experience with it. Casca certainly couldn’t say the same about himself. His thumb rubbed his forefinger as he looked aside, thinking as he spoke.

“Not everyone is trustworthy, though. People might take advantage of another’s need to have friendship. I’ve been exposed to a lot of people like that, so can you blame me if I’m hesitant to trust people? I guess I do want friends, but...the human heart’s a fragile thing. Nobody wants to ever put it in the wrong hands.”

Vinnie had a firm grip on the redhead’s shoulders, trying to calm them down from their heated and accusatory statement. The Stompers, the group that the man was the leader of, were backing down on him when he had asked them for help. That was fine, most of those dumb fucks didn’t understand the purpose of being in this gang, but his best friend didn’t seem to realize that. Crazy brandished a knife in further anger at how they were all cowards, and Vinnie’s hand moves to his wrist, hoping to calm them down further by explaining things.

“ You gonna learn to go slow with these guys wit’ things like this, they’ll come back. An’ even if they do chickenshit outta this fight, me an’ you are gonna go it alone. You’d like that, don’tcha? I know how crazy ya can get. ”

It had been hours since Dr. Livesey and the rest of the small crew - just him and three others - had claimed the empty fort. The pirates who were once allies turned on them, lessening their attacks due to nightfall. It was the perfect time to recuperate and have a strategy when morning rose. He was even more happy that Jim miraculously returned alive, only with some dizziness and bleeding down the thigh from a bullet that grazed him.

The doctor was quick to bandage it and now he was near the now-sleeping boy, allowing them to rest against his side as he leaned against the wall. It was peaceful, actually, the scraping of a sword being sharpened background noise to him as he grew more tired. That was, until it stopped, accompanied with a slight burning gaze from Captain Smollett. His eyes look up to the others, recognizing the brief twinge of worry within their eyes. He knew Smollett didn’t show much emotion other than unbridled anger and violence, but he knew that the captain cared about his crewmates just like he did.

“ No need to worry, Captain. Jim is feeling better, the boy is stronger than he looks. He just- haha- encountered a bit of a... a graze from a bullet, is all, hahahaha... I’ve already bandaged it and am making sure he’s resting. Are you doing well, sir? You should get some rest while you can, haha...The enemy will attack at dawn, I’m certain. ”

Maxwell would Not be touching Anna like that anytime soon because in his head he sees it as a tad disrespectful (+ he's too embarassed to just yknow, milk it) even if she Wants that, if push comes to shove the least he'd do is summon a shadow clone to do the work for him while he just sits in the background and questions his life choices (keep in mind he can feel whatever the shadow puppets are doing since they're part of him so he's just 😔😳😔 Anna please do tease him through his shadow clones)

Flames emitted from the fists of Charles as he continued yelling about how so very unfair this situation was! The skin around his face began to break apart into ash, his body threatened to literally fall apart under the intensity of his rage.

He could not believe this! Jeagar was on his ass for everything ever since the little incident with the blood. So what if the rocket failed and almost blew up, threatening to destroy the entire? That was his business to deal with! Not anybody else's!!

Jeagar simply stood there, waiting for Charles' little tantrum to subside. His face remained stagnant with animosity the entire time. His teeth quietly gritted against each other as he idly stared. When Charles was finished, the grinding of teeth became more feverish, emitting a harsh whisper in the air.

"Consider yourself lucky that I am letting you do this at all. Now stay here and wait for the contact. And try not to make an ass of yourself."

His words caused Charles to back off as the flames in his hands and eyes cooled off. He meekly took a step back. His eyes still held a flicker or anger, but the scolding was enough to put him into submission.

Jeagar simply scoffed and walked into a nearby building. Inside, Daniel sat at a wooden table, excitedly tapping his large, mechanical fingers against the wood. The skeletal holder sat next to his mechanical associate stoically. The two were merely present to make sure the exchange of blood to Sün went smoothly.

Daniel's unblinking, unfaltering smile turned to Jeagar. He used his smaller hand to pull out a small pipe from his neck. A trail of steam poured out of the pipe, with each small cloud forming words in a sentence "Are you as excited as I am to meet our new friend?" Daniel inquired.

"Frankly, I just hope we do not end up in another war," Jeagar replied tiredly.
