Afraid, witch, and gore please!
Thankee, dear!
Afraid: what’s something you are no longer scared of?
Spiders. Still not the biggest fan of them, but since my sister got her tarantula, it’s given me a sense of perspective when it comes to regular house spiders. Now I can actually stand to share a room with them. XD
Witch: how long is your hair?
Uh... long? XD Most of the way down my back.
Gore: are you squeamish?
I really don’t know! I don’t like the idea of gory horror movies and avoid them... but then again, I like films like Hot Fuzz and Die Hard, which have a fair amount of blood splattered about. And I like reading about things like historical medicine and surgery (which... yeah). And in real life, I have a few cast-iron squicks, but in general blood and other body effluvia by themselves don’t bother me, so... idk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Afraid, spells, and VAMPIRE!
Afraid: what’s something you are no longer scared of?
Blimey, I’m trying to think what I used to be afraid of that no longer scares me. I swear as I get older I get scared of more things! I guess I used to be scared of the house setting on fire (which I almost did tonight, lmao) and I used to always tell my mum to check the cooker before I went to bed? Like when I was really little! I must’ve watched way too much 999. Obviously, I wouldn’t want the house to burn down now either, but it doesn’t keep me up at night.
Spells: what superpower would you choose?
I think I’d quite like to be able to fly, but with that would have to be the ability to not have to breathe and defying gravity so I could fly off into space and go have a little look at the planets. Basically, I just want a superpower that would allow me to go into space and not die and not lose any time on Earth!
Vampire: what do you want to dress up as for Halloween?
I want to dress as Mrs SCUM (but that also requires you going as Mr Neutron haha). Failing that then I want to be Cardinal Biggles. Lmao
14, 21, 29!!
14. an artist (of any kind) whose work you look forward to seeing
I follow quite a few tattoo artists on Instagram so: suflanda, pollytaylortattoos, lonerosetattoo, lauranannswift, barbielongfox, warahshitehouse. They obvs can’t tattoo right now so they’ve been sharing lots of art so I’ve bought a couple of prints to support where I can. And two of my favourite artists are Laura Callaghan and Polly Nor.
21. a youtube video you find useful, entertaining or relaxing
I don’t watch any youtubers or anything like that. Honestly wouldn’t know where to start. I have been enjoying National Theatre Live at Home every Thursday evening tho. It’s given me something to look forward to each week.
29. a favourite easy recipe: 5 ingredients or less, or takes less than 30 min to make
Biscoff traybake! Looks kinda revolting but it’s lovely!
One jar of Biscoff (crunchy or smooth, doesn’t matter; we could only get crunchy), 3 eggs, 2 tsp of baking powder all mixed together. Bake in a lined 8-inch tin for 18-20 minutes at 180c (fan). It comes out as a really fluffy sponge. If you have a second jar of Biscoff, once it’s cool spread five tablespoons of it over the top so it’s like icing and then cut into slices :)

5. where do you buy books?

10. do you have a guilty fav?
holes by louis sachar will always hold a special place in my heart, having read it in year 7
15. recommend and review a book.
if i ever recommend a book to anyone, it’s middlemarch by george eliot.
middlemarch daunted me at first - understandably, because it’s 900 pages long - but it is not an exaggeration when i say that there is not a single page that could be ripped out, without removing part of its heart.
it is a gorgeous piece of literature, dipping into the lives of the residents of middlemarch in the early victorian era: the young, naive, but good-intentioned dorothea brooke, the ambitious new doctor, lydgate, and the religiously-devout banker, bulstrode, just to name a few. mirroring against the changing social state, these lives play out, and create 900 pages of some of the most exquisite prose, drawing a perfectly line between prim and passionate.
it’s easy to scoff when people say that a book changed their life. but middlemarch changed my life.
20. what are things you look for in a book?
i love period settings, particularly georgian/victorian. i also have a real soft spot for romances or, if not that, then the gothic.
