Vicious by V.E. Schwab
What’s It About?
Victor and Eli are college roommates who share a sense of darkness between them. When Eli’s thesis goes from being a study on people with supernatural abilities to Victor’s plan to try and give them powers, a sudden and irreversible crack runs down the foundation of whatever friendship they had.
Victor has spent years in jail and he has one plan on his mind: revenge. With the help of his burly prison roommate and the girl he picked up on the side of the road, Victor will get it.
Why Did I Like It?
This was a very original kind of plot. I liked that it was a superhero/supervillain story but neither one of them were good. And while Eli was murdering people, his motive was one of thinking of himself as the good guy despite him clearly being framed as the villain. But is Victor really a good person? Is Victor really the hero?
The clear hero is Sydney and Dol but I digress.
Also the writing was great. I was hooked from page one. Kudos to Schwab.
