LJ Archivr Review with some important info

This review is from yesterday. This rings true as someone else contacted me about not being to archive their journal with the LJ Archivr. I was initially concerned there was an issue with the app. I did a zoom screen share and directly witnessed them drawing a blank screen just trying to bring home screen up on their browser without even using my app. You can get the LJ Archivr at https://www.ljarchivr.com It will archive local html files on your local hard drive with a spreadsheet inventory of all your entries & what was downloaded. I offered this service for free for 6 months since January 1st 2026, but it has consumed so much of my time it is not fun anymore. It now takes 3 times the effort to back-up a Livejournal. Especially, if it's a large journal it takes forever. Sometimes some people will ask for 2 or more journals. I did them with very little trouble before now. This is the consequence of waiting till the last minute. Prior to this it was much easier to archive. However, at the last minute when demand outplaces supply everybody wants toilet paper. The archiver's chicken little chirping "the sky is falling" takes new relevance when the shit hits the fan and you need that TP. I started this project in 2022 at the start of the invasion. It's 2026. Yes, I'm ranting a little bit. This will most likely mostly 2 types of people:

Those who haven't archived yet & feel called out.

Anti-archivists.

Please know that if you know anyone who has purchased this already they can archive your journal just as well as I can. They may not even ask for money. I no longer enjoy doing this work but If I have to then I will raise money for the projects I am really interested in and those who are not interested in spending money will reduce the requests this 4th of July Weekend. If you want to assist me with archiving fanvids. I will do it for free. I have asked this question before. Who preserving Vidding Fanworks and no one seems to have an answer or not care. If you don't have an answer but do care you can join me. This the kind of (fandom) history you can be on the right side of or wrong side of or wait till the last minute. That is truly The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Update: It is specifically a Comcast > Livejournal issue. If you have Comcast you will have issues connecting to Livejournal if you are even able to connect at all.

It could just a matter of time like age verification on Discord. It also seems the chatter is that You Tube is picking up copyright claims perhaps because AI can flag better or for worse. I don't want to go down this road. Not because fear of loss is an effective motivator. It is. I don't want to go there because given the choice, I want to believe it is better to run to something I am looking forward to than away from something I am afraid of. That energy running to energy could make the difference and create escape velocity from what may be closing in on this Hellmouth. These weird characters you are reading is attempt to convey first and foremost my passion for this project and secondly something that resonates with you that inspires you to be a part of it. I am deathly afraid a typo may jeopardize this. 😉My proclivity for humor may actually cause that. Ok focus. I trust you see all past the distraction and catch on that this is not a casual endeavor. Vidding is Valuable & Priceless

A public comment on You Tube. Some people think archiving is simply archiving a video. Many may not know realized comments like this can also be archived. This is as much of a part of the cultural history and impact of Vidding almost as much as the vid itself. I will argue that not only does a vid have this impact. This comment also has an impact even if this commentor doesn't think the original vidder (or perhaps even you or I) will see the comment. The effect is the validation this this art can make more of a difference than we can ever imagine or handle 😉. It is a shooting star from many light years away that inspires those who see it now. VidRecs.com Archive Status

VidRecs.com is a site where you can embed & share your favorite vid and say what you like about them. We will archive them just in case they are deleted from their original hosting location. I learned something today. Some people think Archiving vids and Hosting & Streaming vids are the same thing. We are not hosting & streaming vids that are recc'd on VidRecs.com. Any vid on the site is embedded from corporate servers who care about fanvids the same way Hulu and Disney care about Buffy the Vampire Slayer being rebooted which is not much at all. It might bring you reassurance that if you rec a vid on VidRecs.com we will archive it like we give a fuck. Of course, you can archive it yourself but being a single point of reference can be a weak strategy for fandom preservation. It doesn't hurt to "have a backup" as they say and it's so easy to do. If you don't give a fuck then don't do anything except, perhaps get angry at me for saying you don't give a fuck. I would call that misplaced energy. Regret stings the most when you know you could have done something. That's why we created the site. We've been there. The purpose of this post is to highlight a feature of VidRecs.com. Every vid on VidRecs.com has an Archive Status. Our goal is to archive any recc'd vids at least once a week if not the same day. A vid that has not been archived looks like this.

If you see a vid that is a "Dead Embed" but has a check mark that means it was archived before the boogeyman got to it. There are 2 such videos like that and both of them are absolute gems! French kiss type vids. At least they were archived. Fandom preservation at work. Halleluiah.
