Named in 1903 after the cleric, preacher and author Abraham a Sancta Clara (actual Johann Ulrich Megerle, 1644-1709). He is regarded as one of the most important german catholic priests and poets of the baroque, with an immense power of language and linguistic creativity. He had written over 600 works. He worked in Vienna from 1669-1672, primarily preaching in churches and cloisters. 1680 he published „Merck‘s Wienn!“ an account of Vienna during the time of the plague.

The historian commission that investigated the Viennese street names, concluded that this street name is a case with democracy-politically relevant biographical gaps. According to the final report of the study Abraham a Sancta Clara was in his sermons and throughout his life commited to Anti-Judaism carried on common prejudices. (z.B „Judas der Erz-Schelm“, Huy! Und Pfuy! Die Welt“).

Abermanngasse was named in 1894 after the german historian Heinrich ABERMANN (1583 – 1621), who was from 1610 professor at the University of Vienna, from 1614 its rector. He is famous for first publishing the German translation of Vienna Austria by Wolfgang Lazius in 1616– 1619, which became the first history of the city Vienna in German.

Abelegasse - Named in 1856 after the innkeeper Thomas ABELE (1798-1869), local councillor. Around 1783 it was called Feldweg and from 1835 “Untere Hauptstraße.”

Back in 2010 I started with a long-term photography project, photographing the streets of Vienna in alphabetical order. The goal is not to document the street in an analytical way, but to get inspired by every day objects and seemingly “boring” things. This means, that sometimes shorter streets lead to more pictures whereas long streets might not automatically cumulate in many photos.

Each street is photographed using film cameras and the different kind of films give each series of photos a different look.
