So I finally read "Viewpoint B" through, start to finish, instead of stopping at the end of Part 1 and resolving to finish it later. And there are a lot of insights it offers into the daily life of a B-Komachi idol, but personally, it also offers insight into why one of my mutuals ships Ai with Kyun.
They had one conversation, that's it. But it was enough that Ai felt closer to her than anyone else in the group. And that one conversation is enough time for Ai to spill her guts, share what the reader knows are some of her deepest anxieties.
And it's not all about Ai; Kyun gets something out of this, too. She expresses frustration at having a relationship with some guy who doesn't understand the troubles of being an idol, but Ai obviously does. And Ai pushes Kyun to make music instead of just performing it.
Kyun pushes back, and by the end she wrote a melody to match Ai's lyrics. "Lying Me". And despite its obscurity and unpopularity, Kyun finds herself humming it more than a decade after Ai's death.
A chance meeting one night forged possibly one of the five strongest relationships Ai ever had before the twins were born...a strong contender for the strongest relationship she ever had with a non-blonde. If only they had shared more than one conversation...wait, I think my mutual has a fic about that...
