❝ I could never love another as I do you, even if I wanted to. ❞

GREY EYES, as crestfallen as they are impassioned, cause the woman’s broken heart to stir.
she becomes glass under rainier’s vigilant gaze; she is lucid, bare, fragile- all terrifying prospects anywhere else, except there, with him. he sees through her like no one else.
the inquisitor had denied them both each other’s company for nearly two weeks following his pardon, to allow their minds to clear without distraction. unbeknownst to her, his touch had been sorely missed in that time. it is only as tension visibly leaves her shoulders and she sinks into the warmth of calloused hand on her cheek, amongst their world of uncertainties, that she finally receives clarity.
merilin had spent her life feeling incomplete, homesick for a home that did not exist for her, until she found it, at last, with him.
and so, for the first time since that night he fled to val royeaux, a wide smile spreads on her lips, followed closely by bittersweet tears. the pain of the aftermath is far from over, but as he thumbs away the dampness under her eyelashes with meticulous care, merilin’s chest aches with fondness. it’s as if time and memory suspend in that moment, their collective sins forgotten in favor of their bond.
❛ thom, ❜ she whispers. the name doesn’t match his face quite yet, the one meant for blackwall… but she has faith that it will, someday. ❛ you are the reason that i see a future for myself after the inquisition. ❜
merilin watches the former fugitive’s features closely as they soften, and she knows he feels the same intoxicating ache of unconditional acceptance as she. it is love unabashed, emboldened by their hardship. her head turns so she may kiss the heel of his hand as she holds it in place. she is flooding with gratitude she will be attempting to put into words in the years to come. soft lips linger and trace a deep scar that perfectly bisects the heart line of his palm.
❛ i’ll forget my own name before i stop loving you. ❜
