Yes! Definitely. Agree 100%. I also have been reading contemporary accounts (as well as scholarly analysis) of the Virgin Islands at the time and there’s absolutely no doubt he saw a lot of stuff that even the most jaded of his North American friends never would have seen. I think Chernow gets it a bit right when he brings that up in connection with Maria Reynolds.
