so I know the red gloves were symbolism for the blood on Victor’s hands, but could they also be tying him to motherhood in the hands that he used to create life?
the women throughout the movie are depicted wearing red and holding red umbrellas, which especially stood out in the case of victor’s mother and her ties to childbirth. Assuming that red is somewhat tied to reproduction and the blood that goes into having a child, could we not also assume that the gloves are to show Victor’s own relationship with childbirth (from his hands)?
More tumblerinas should be into dylan dog. It's a product of its time. He's supposed to be english but is written by italians which makes him 100% not english coded. He's a supernatural detective he doesnt believe in anything supernatural. He's broke as fuck and has no work ethic. He falls in love with every woman he sees for more than 37 seconds. They all fucking die or leave his ass. He's so emo wet cat of a man. He's a freak. He's a loser. He's SO straight and yet so bisexualcore. He's 90% lover 10% fighter. He's a flop. His best friend is an impersonator that has been impersonating the same guy for all his life. They got married once and it was the only moment of peace they knew. And then they fucking died. Get into dylan dog.
Warning: You WILL want dylan carnally. I am not joking YOU WILL. You will stand with your problematic wife trust me.
Im reading old issues (90s stuff) and its so bad and good at the same time.
uhm project hail mary spoilers. a lot of them. also an assload of yap
dude that made me cry 4 times. in that 150 minutes i cried 4 times.
I REALLY LOVED IT YOU WERE RIGHT. God their friendship meant so much to me. Rocky's my favorite I love him he makes me laugh. Me when I fist my bump like okay bro. He's so sassy as well??? ALSO THE HARRIER DU BOIS ASS BEGINNING. Losing your memories and having to put it back together through clues like why is this an underlying theme.
Also radiation poisoning. Wow why does everyone keep getting radiation poisoned!!! Honestly I've got so much to say about project hail mary it was beautiful.
Man the whole time during the scene where they're fishing and the ship is crashing out my head was just going "hull breach" over and over again. Iron lung flashbacks yippee.... I CAN'T BELIEVE IT WAS A HAPPY ENDING LIKE I CAME INTO THAT THINKING IT WAS TRAGIC AND THAT'S WHY IT KEPT GETTING PAIRED WITH IRON LUNG. APPARENTLY NOT?? I WAS SO PLEASANTLY SHOCKED
Yeah man uhm. this is bigger than us i guess. now all I can think about is how Simon's sun is already gone and how he doesn't get a happy ending but atleast grace and rocky do
(you can see the stains from when my tears fell onto my glasses while I was sobbing during the movie)
I confess, I cried too. Multiple times.
smth about friendship like holy hell I love my friends so much and so do rocky and grace—they did a wonderful job of developing their friendship in a way that made me really care about them. And haha yeah I like me a good amnesiac start
I COULD NOT STOP drawing parallels between phm and iron lung: hull breach had me shaking in my seat. It reminded me of Wolf 359 a ton too. I love good space media
bro iron lung fucked me up and project Hail Mary healed me I think. They’re MADE to be watched together imo. I keep seeing the bloodymary ship on my dash
maybe if you hung your glasses off your ear like grace you wouldn’t have stains 😭🙏 maybe that’s why he does it
Ty for telling me your thoughts on the movie!! I thought you’d like it and I’m glad you did :3
RASH OUT I HAD A HEART ATTACK IN EVRARTA CHAIR BUT I DIDNT SAVE AT ALL FOR SO LONG SO I LOST ALL OF MY PROGRESS I FREAKING HATE EVERYTHING IS THIS HOW HARRY FEELS ALL THE TIME
soooooo I did it. I watched the new Frankenstein movie
I heard a lot of competing perspectives on it and as an obsessive fan of the book I decided the only way to determine what I thought was to go to the theater with some friends and make my own decision
thoughts below (and spoilers)
okay so to start off: the og novel changed my brain chemistry, I wouldn’t shut up about it, and I now own around nine copies of it counting a puzzle and a manga version. I come to this movie as a huge fan of Victor but also the creature as well <3 this is my credibility blurb
and….
I actually loved the movie! It wasn’t an accurate portrayal of the original novel in many ways, but I didn’t actually mind the way they adapted it. Bear with me….
what I liked:
I like when people make Victor kind of an arrogant prick. I also like when they make him pathetic. Very good balance here, even if he’s a little more awful than in the book. I love this horrible victor. I love watching him get beat up.
The Creature (<3) finally gets to speak! As much as I sometimes dunk on him in the book (he did commit premeditated murder, frame innocents, and try to customize a wife), I’m always glad when he’s portrayed sympathetically (because he should be)
Keeping Walton in was very important to me, even though we don’t really get to see his letters
Victors backstory was fun. Accurate? No. But it kind of feeds into the theories that his childhood was not as idyllic as he claimed. Idk I like weird angry men with sad childhoods so this was something I fw
color symbolism made all the scenes really pretty. Everything technical about the movie and the directing was amazing. Very pretty
bonus points for being allowed to stare at victors tits while he crashes out
what I didn’t like:
Elizabeth didn’t really get a ton of character outside of being an ambiguous love interest to multiple characters. Yeah she liked bugs, but I would’ve liked to understand more about her motivations and feelings. Her relationship/lack thereof with Victor was eh. I could say more, but that’s basically it
no Henry clerval :( he’s replaced by the syphilis man (who I did like)
why is the Creature immortal? And super strong? And auto healing? I’m pretty sure it was all just so del toro could use more injury and violence without repercussion. I get it, but it didn’t make sense within the story and felt out of place
Victor being portrayed by an older actor loses some of the sympathy he deserves from being like 20 years old when everything happens. In the film though, it works out, I just wonder if we’ll ever get a young victor
the Creature doesn’t feel as morally complex because he doesn’t commit as much premeditated murder. You feel pretty bad for him, and though he does a lot of violence, you don’t get the same moments where you watch him kill out of a desire for revenge and hatred
overall: I really enjoyed the movie! I didn’t cry watching it, and I don’t think it hit me nearly as emotionally as the book did, but it was like a treat for me as someone who loves good Frankenstein content. If you can get past the fact that it’s an adaptation and somewhat different, the similarities still make it fun to watch!
if you want a more accurate adaptation of the book? Listen to the Frankenstein the New Musical Soundtrack. So many good songs, and generally pretty faithful to the original novel
