I was the one who said Lagartha was gonna die.. I keep imaging her being killed by one of the banished vikings who were killing some of the women and children. Maybe she gets severely injured, then Ubbe kills her in an act of mercy. Maybe that would be the "surprise" twist.
No offense, but I hope not! While I agree with you that Hirst may go that way, I really need Aslaug to specifically be avenged
Maybe I’m thinking too far ahead but I’m really hoping we see William longsword in the future, although with Hirst I won’t be surprised if he makes him William the conqueror instead
Merry Christmas if you celebrate. Well, Rollo will appear this season. Although, I’m not sure if either in season 5A or B. By the description we have of his role in this season, it seems he is dying.
Ragnar’s brother, Rollo is an impulsive and ruthless warrior. Rollo decides to think of himself and becomes the Duke of Normandy after marrying Princess Gisla. When Ragnar dies, Rollo is lost between the feeling of success and that of emptiness. Viking blood flows in his veins, and he tries to prove to the gods that he is still worthy to join his brother in Valhalla.
This way, we will get a glimpse of Normandy and, maybe, an adult William to whom Rollo will pass the torch. One can only hope.
I also imagine Hirst might go with William the Conqueror to finish the show. My crazy thoughts are:
I believe Hirst favors Ivar. This way, he might want to show Ivar’s death as the end of the Viking Age (even if it was not). I’ll explain better. We know we are having Russia in season 6. So I suppose Hvitserk will meet his end there (by the sagas Hirst is not really fond of following anyway), but it’s said Ivar was the first of Aslaug’s sons to die. It’s also said he was the eldest, yet the show doesn’t go with this.
Anyway, if (a big if here) Hvitserk dies, Ivar might follow him shortly and Hirst could write a time jump with William the Conqueror founding Ivar’s burial place, starting the Norman Conquest and the ending of Viking Era. I confess that it’s the ending I’m cheering for.
The excerpt of Ivar’s saga:
This prophecy held true, says the saga, until William the Conqueror came ashore. He went to the burial site and broke the mound and saw that Ivar’s body had not decayed. William had a large pyre made upon which Ivar’s body was burned, then he proceeded with the invasion and achieved victory.
Theory: I think Lagartha is gonna die this season.
History Channel did run a series of promotions reminding us that the Seer said she would die at the hands of a son of Ragnar. So I agree, this is one plot thread that actually won’t be forgotten.
I’m really hoping Ubbe is the one that does it, I think Hirst is overdoing how much Ubbe has switched to Team Lagertha so he might be “setting up a surprise twist.” I mean a girl can dream right?
Prediction
Ragnar's gonna pop out of that coffin. It's a Trojan Horse deal.
@sanwalisaloni
Apparently I haven’t been following you long enough to be able to reply to your note, but that’s an interesting thought! It hadn’t occurred to me that the death was anything but real, but it did seem like an abrupt departure for the second-or third-most principal character since season one. The whole season’s been a bit uneven for me. I still haven’t really grasped that was-he-Odin-or-not storyline. If I had to guess, I’d say that something’s going to happen with Ragnar and Athelstan’s son that the king of Wessex for some reason wants to make semi-divine (?!?!?) Maybe he’ll end up making true peace between the pagans and the Chrsitians? I think it will all come down to that conversation they had at the ball, about both the king of Wessex and Ragnar being essentially good men but corrupt, although I have no clue how it will play out. Based on the seer’s prediction, it seems like Ragnar’s group will reach France and Rollo will marry into royalty, but who knows? I don’t know if I’ll watch the next season, but there are a lot of questions I would like to see answered.
As for Floki, I liked him when he was comic relief. I think his character’s really changed, and not in a good way, since the first season.
I will hang all my hopes on Athelstan in the trailer saying: “I was dead, but I’m reborn.”
Also, I still can’t tell if Ragnar says “You do not leave me” or “You do not need me”, but - if the latter, and considering Floki campaigning against Athelstan and spreading unrest - maybe - maybe what will happen is not Athelstan leaving, but Ragnar sending him away? For his own safety’s sake. That would explain the “forgive me, my friend” bit.
Oh, and of course Ragnar sends him back to England, because Ragnar doesn’t know that Ecbert is less of a friend and ally than he thought, and oh...
I wonder if Judith’s affair with Athelstan was part of Ecbert’s scheme - after all, the Northmen have served their purpose and left and he now has control of Mercia through Kwenthrith - control, which could be strengthened by having her and Aethelwulf marry, and Judtih cheating would be an excellent excuse to cast her off. Then turn on Northumbria - after all, he has his first grandson, who can make a claim on that throne just fine, especially if somebody gets rid of his uncle...
