There’s no need to point out the obvious; he knows, he knows, he knows. Even when not a soul prepared him for words along those lines or that kind, the burden was already there the moment he could count on his fingers the lives they’d taken. The two who should’ve been the second princess and rightful ruler of this eternal night only added to that number. And all he could do was look to the floor, without anything to give. Justification was out of the question. It didn’t exist. What reasoning could one give to a brother, that the blood of his own was on their hands; crimson of different shades and persons is all a knight can offer, from a king’s brother and sister, his own allies and friends —- only reason for being simply standing on the opposite side of the battlefield, or that Heaven simply couldn’t wait for any. He could say all that and more, and it wouldn’t be enough. Never.

He could only give a sigh in the end —- too tired of this end result: a bittersweet victory that never ceased to make him question who should have lived and died. “ It won’t mean much, ” he began quietly. “ It means nothing to Nohr, I know...
