the one thing she knew for certain was that she was scared. small, gulping down deep inhales of oxygen like she had just been SUFFOCATING (and wasn't she? in death?)... just trying her best not to hyperventilate. but how? she was ten, though she didn't FEEL ten. she had been sick, that's what she had remembered... but she didn't feel sick anymore.

she remembered the fever, remember the retching and her mother's tight hold upon her hand -- hands soft and nurturing, not unlike the ones taking care of her now. and at a glance, in the right light, mia even looked like...

"mama?" came her soft, pleading voice -- as fragile as a baby bird stretching its wings for the first time. hands moved to reach for her before finally getting a look at her face and that movement stopped as though eva had been BURNED. tears mixing with the blood, with the filth that covered her face as a result of her rebirth.

"i want to go... home."
