I am once again thinking about the fact that Alan Rickman was the only person on that set who knew the ending from day one. Every micro-expression, every "cruel" remark, and every cold stare was layered with fifteen years of secrets and a vow he never intended to break.
In this moment, everyone else is horrified or confused, but Snape’s facade just... drops. He isn’t looking at a "celebrity student" or a rival’s son. He’s looking at Lily’s eyes and realizing the rabbit hole goes so much deeper than he feared.
Snape: I promised to protect him.
Harry: starts speaking snake
Snape: …Lily, what in the Merlin’s beard have you brought into this world, and how am I actually supposed to keep it alive?
It’s the look of a man realizing his "simple" job of protecting a boy from external threats just became a nightmare of internal ones. Parseltongue meant Voldemort. It meant a connection. It meant that his "Always" was about to get a lot more complicated.
Alan Rickman played the long game from Movie 1 and we honestly didn’t deserve him. 😭💔
