Story Prompt 92
In the aftermath of a brutal clash, only two figures remained amidst the sea of fallen warriors. One, a figure cloaked in darkness, his form battered and broken yet still exuding a menacing aura. The other, a hero, weary but resolute, his eyes reflecting the trials of battle.
As the hero approached, the dark figure let out a raspy laugh, blood staining his lips as he spoke. "You see, it had to be this way," he wheezed, his voice a haunting echo of his former power. "For without us, chaos reigns. They will tear themselves apart, consumed by greed and envy."
The hero remained silent, his gaze steady upon his adversary.
"It's the natural order of things," the dark figure continued, his voice a mixture of amusement and despair. "Without a common enemy, they turn on each other. And in their desperation for power, they will destroy everything in their path."
The hero tightened his grip on his weapon, but the dark figure merely chuckled, a bitter sound that echoed across the battlefield. "So, what will it be, hero?" he asked, his eyes gleaming with a twisted sort of anticipation. "Will you take up the mantle of villain to unite them against a common foe? Or will you stand aside and watch as they tear each other apart?"
With those words, the dark figure fell silent, his laughter fading into the dawn. And as the sun rose over the battlefield, the hero was left to ponder the choice before him.
