I just finished book 4 and I cannot stop thinking about the dynamic between Jamil and Kalim. Academically, Jamil is up there with Riddle and Azul. Maybe even past them with the amount of magic he can conjure at one time. And Kalim is down with Ace and Deuce. And Jamil has to hold himself back and pretend to be down there too. Not to mention it has to be grinding, to some degree, to wait on someone hand and foot. To be someone’s body guard and entertainment and personal chef and tutor. Especially knowing that you and your family could’ve been doing way more with your lives had you not been born into servitude. Not to mention, they’re like 19. They still have a bunch of hormones running through their bodies.
I think Jamil may have some fondness for Kalim as they’ve been together for their whole lives. However, I can understand the frustration of having to lower yourself for someone who doesn’t even realize how much you’re holding yourself back for them. And Kalim is probably the only one to compliment Jamil. Which probably adds to the frustration.
