Houses around me have been sinking back into the earth because they built Orleans on a swamp. I feel like all it would take is 1-2 more years and the city would be buying our house from us…

Seriously, dude! I mean there’s so much more happening around here lately but uh.. I dont have the time or energy to unpack all of that shit. It’s just getting harder and harder for people to live here. These big changes are costing everyone damages that they just cant afford to fix in the current economy... but they also cant afford to live somewhere else.

I don’t think that would convince him. He already turned down my step mom’s and mine’s idea about the bat houses, even though it would drastically reduce the mosquitoes around the yard. Its not that he doesnt care about the animals (even though he’s skiddish around them), because he found a baby deer mouse with its eyes barely open and tried to take care of it until I got home. And when I was a kid I was woken up by scratching noises and we found a small white and brown spotted mouse in a box and he ALMOST let me keep it until it was warm enough to let it out. (But I think that was because I was only 6 years old and didnt want to seem like a total asshole XD) But its almost like most of the time he separates himself from those feelings and stubbornly settles on the idea that they’re just destructive pests and does what he grew up watching his parents do, which is to just kill them. Until I got old enough to object and just take the animals outside myself (the ones I caught anyway)

Dude, the things I would do if this were my house.... I’d keep bees, I’d have bat houses in the trees, I’d have more bird feeders. I’d definitely make small nesting boxes... But this is my dads house and he hates bugs and rodents and ‘pests’ of any kind. I’m still baffled by that because he’s the one who chose to buy a house in the country when he was 19. XD The only animals anyone in my extended family loves are dogs. We all have dogs. But they’re not big on nature or wild animals or bugs. Apparently im the only wildchild in the family. ^^’
