first and foremost, sam's a girl... that's a trans girl. and it's really Easy to count up evidence for it aside from the glaringly obvious arc:
she immediately threw out her clothes in favor for salex's uniform, already came up with samantha*, was Fully Ready to live out her life as a Girl, and has an Obsession with cross dressing <- all in canon
*her name is still Sam even with the transition, sam doesnt go by samuel or samantha and thinks the simplicity is enough <- all in imterpretation
there's also a part in i think in ts episode 15? (im not saying the fucking episode name. iykyk) or at least in that taurtis clone arc that sam says quote, "Everyone here wears girls' panties!" <- OHHH GIRL.
this isnt a "THIS HAS TO MEAN SHES TRANS" thing but with like everything else, its a bonus, but sam's fave color being pink (mentioned in both yan. and ts) and her obsession with dolls + dollhouses or like "stereotypical society assigned girl things" with those two in particular ... idk fun bonus ^_^
sam is a girl in a way that you know everything makes sense in that perspective also literally just change her pronouns to she/her and give her boobs without changing the body type or personality or name. still the same asshole teenager
that being said i am gonna use she/her for sam throughout this Post lala + have yan/yhs/ts be one cohesive timeline because that's my interpretation for og yhs as a whole (never watching the reboots because even watching this sucks ass.)
i think sam's a writer, or at least had english as her best subject considering that she isnt athletic enough ever. in like the first episode of yhs i think, sam admits to taurtis that she has good grades

i think personally sam's a grade A student if she's honest enough to admit to having "really good" grades. granted, sam is a big liar i feel like we all know that, but considering sam's behaviour in early yhs, she is pretty much a "suck up" / "goody two shoes"
speaking of, i am a firm believer in the asylum theory and it actually ties in the events of yandere and yhs together nicely even with yan. abruptly ending on a cliffhanger
so yan. ends with sam getting literally chased by the SWAT or special forces after rowan and okami lose silly (their fault btw. sam is FIVE. but whatever. im mad.) — and yhs starts with a version of sam that is DRASTICALLY different from the sam that everyone characterizes [her] by and knows the most for
even in yan, sam is actually a pretty bratty kid. she has anger issues, yells and talks back at her dad, "breaks the rules" like jaywalking and admitting to stealing/tried to steal in the crabman carl's shop, etc etc. right? sounds almost exactly the same personality wise with who sam is in current time, right?
but that's still a kid, that's still a teenager. and i dont think anybody really acknowledges that fact well enough in both canon and fandom. i am lucky enough the poll i made said no to the question whether or not sam is fundamentally evil, but people still said yes to that
i dont think sam's evil. ever. yet people seem to Think that just because sam doesnt ever know what the hell she's doing. is it right? fuck no. shes the stupidest bitch ever and makes the worst decisions especially morally (to a degree, which paints sam in the "Evil Light"). but does it make sam the devil reincarnated? no. no i really dont think so. cause sam is a CHILD AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL SHE'S DOING!!!! EVER.
it's why i think sam gets the WORST treatment from everyone around her (+ fandom) —obviously not number one worst treatment forever, i think this title belongs to yuki, but sam gets an AWFUL treatment esp. considering the reason sam gets Worse is because of environmental influence
but back to the asylum, i promise it's relevant to my tangent, her fucking teachers sent the squad after a child (and bombs. remember that? rowan threathened to bomb 5 year old sam's house—) i feel like them detaining sam isnt something that they arent against. you know?
—by the way, stanley blames sam for the bomb threat. telling her to right whatever she did to piss rowan off instead of, yknow, NOT BLAMING THE CHILD. with that i think it is - so easy to assume stanley is okay with sam going to the asylum especially because stanley is already a deadbeat with him never being around sam in highschool plus that he doesnt actually know what sam needs and wants. mrs. gladiator is like - another issue but she's not important considering we never see her but anyway—
like i think it just makes sense that the narrative in canon reason why yan. cuts off there is because sam gets sent off to an asylum and it's why sam acts the way she is in early yhs. THIS makes sense to me because it'd explain the weird personality swap if yan was actually a prequel AND explains sam's visercal and clearly emotional reaction to the idea of the asylum when she was freaking out about grian:
INVADER: Go to an insane asylum, Sam.
SAM: I-I'm not going back to the insane asylum!
SAM, sharply: I'm not going back there, again!
it just makes sense.
but that's not all i have for sam! we're going to tokyo soul focus now, with the cthulhu arc! bit, lore, whatever it is- sort of?
okay for transparency's sake, i didnt watch most of tokyo soul, but i did watch parts of this arc And the finales which tie in the necronomicon and cthulhu together — and i will say that i am a big fan of the supernatural here, for tokyo soul considering it is an expansion of the supernatural aside from ghosts which is yhs' whole thing, but i am a fucking hater for the alien and minions bullshit. anyway,
there's a very clear thing cthulhu talks about with sam specifically and to sam about, and that is that she's destined to be ruler of the universe / the root of it all / humanity's downfall / horseman of the apocalypse <- all canon

whats even more fucking ironic is that it doesnt even matter in the end — cthulhu essentially gets what he wants anyway. the universe, or at least sam's world gets destroyed. and sam would technically rule over nothing anyway!
and this would be fucking DEVASTATING!!
because sam isn't even THERE when it happens, she and grian are in another universe/timeline and they only come back to the AFTERMATH. can you imagine the fucking horrific implications of coming back to absolutely nothing?
your family's dead. your friends are dead. teachers, strangers, everyone. nobody is left but you.
i dont think the house was safe after a few days. they had full on FIGHTS in there and BY THE WAY, I HAVE NEVER READ THE TOKYO SOUL 2 LORE DOCUMENT. NEVER DOUBT ME AGAIN FOR THIS. I THOUGHT— NO, I KNEW THAT THEY WOULD FULLY FIGHT SINCE BEFORE I EVEN READ IT.
[Day xx/xy/xx] The war for the house ended in tragedy. The trio were at each others throats, through an array of continuous assaults using only what’s laying about the house, Sam, Taurtis, and Grian were gravely wounded.
THEY WOULD BE AT EACH OTHER'S THROATS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? sam, grian, and the taurtis they KIDNAPPED to be there. tension would be HIGH considering that alt. dimension taurtis HATED them for multiple reasons and grian already disliked and just tolerated sam. the house is miserable
i think sam wouldve actually truly learned what it was like to grieve. because she spends the entirety of yhs going Forward, or at least never actually stopping to think about anything. its why she never thinks twice about taurtis' death other than "oh that sucked." even if he sent her a letter and he is her best friend. its why she brushes yuki off as her ex girlfriend and the reason why she cant stand "(pink) girls with knives" but never actually spends a moment feeling Truly uncomfortable by it.
there needs to be moments where sam realizes this is how she Cant run. yhs is an always moving series, its why the craziest shit happens and you never get two seconds to think about it at the same time the characters cant. sam's always out of the house and doing something at school or not and its rinse and repeat of leaving and coming back to sleep
at the end of ts, theres nowhere else to go. if you leave the house, you get teleported back up so sam's forced to just sit there and think. all while theres most likely nothing keeping the internet alive (electricity + the internet + plumbing probably work with magic, considering theres fucking cthulhu and the necronomicon but whatever) —which means everywhere is a wasteland and if sam's always fighting, then the only good company she can get that isnt jerry or whatever, is herself
and what can you do but think?
i fully believe sam realizes that "oh god. that all really happened to me. i did all of that. what's wrong with me?" because sam isnt a fully bad person. she's just impressionable. she doesnt know what the hell she's doing, thus the stupid actions and guilible trusting of people who should know better, but never do.
sam's smart. logically. she can think to some degree that she can dissect what makes sense and not, but in her own terms? if that makes sense? she always retorts back or debates or points out certain things when talking to other people like she's picking apart things with her own logic. and some of it is stupid, some of it is dumb, but they all make sense to her? sam's logic is hard to explain but you can see it a lot
