The #KirbysDreamlandChallenge trend tipped on June 3rd, 2016. The original post by Viral Shark Media shows a group of people energetically dancing, set to the beat to the music of the Kirby’s Dreamland stage from Super Smash Bros.
The original post has over 34 million loops (and counting), and has since inspired thousands of users to remix their own versions.
We caught up with Viral Shark Media to talk a little bit about the trend.
How did you come up with the idea for Kirby's Dreamland Challenge?
I've always loved video games and video game music. A lot of dance challenges have hit the net but none that really captured my interest as a gamer, so I decided to create one. I experimented with only a few other songs before i realized how well the kirby one fit. I never expected it to go as viral as it did but I did hope for a few copy cats to make it a real challenge :)
What has been the coolest thing you've experienced since creating the trend?
Having Vine and Nintendo tweet about the challenge was mind blowing. Having "Razer" actually participate in it was unreal. My notifications/VMs have been flooded like never before but mostly from love of the challenge and people wanting to get involved and thank me for creating it. I have to say that THE CRAZIEST thing is having my challenge published on the Vine Trends page and seeing it pass one of my favorite memes "The FitnessGram Pacer Test" [in loops] in just a few days.
