     he  is  unfamiliar  with  the  desperation  in  mat’s  voice  as  they  sit  together  in  a  contemplative  quiet ,  a  stranger  to  such  loss  bequeathed  by  those  passed   &   the  effects  of  such ,  but  he  understands  that  this  is  not  the  time  to  impute  the  pain  of  a  friend  to  the  throes  that  mortality  has  to  offer ,  nor  the  place  to  relate  this  sorrow  to  any  he  has  ever  known  in  order  to  feign  empathy  ––  not  this  backwards  evangelism ,  not  to  someone  he  cares  for .  a  sharp  breath  severs  the  suffocating  silence   &   he  clears  his  throat .

The man replied quietly, sitting close to his friend, feeling guilty for what the other feels, even though he did nothing wrong. He have that thing, feeling bad for people all the time. Or opposite, feeling good, and he doesn’t care that he’s not involved.

Hugo for the first time feeling comfident about his actions, and this time he’s not even drunk. He knows Mat just as good as all other dads in his neighborhood, so he’s not really being unsure about going all in.
