WEEK 26 Blackhorse Lane Open Studios DAY 5 - Jonet Harley Peters @jonetharley_peters3115 Low relief photo montage: This series was started in March 2020 during the first 'lockdown' of the Covid 19 pandemic. The profusion of Cherry blossom was in direct contrast to the developing and increasing spread of the Virus. The use of Black and the geometry of the Hexagon provided the basic pattern and symmetrical structure for the dark mood of the series. On return to the 'outside' world later this developed into other aspects of the natural world, rain, light and Water. In Dark spring I, some triangles show leafless branches of winter while others have sections of highly manipulated Turkish tile decoration, illustrating leaf and plant forms. These different elements and images alongside delicate blossom petals are laid out in symmetrical patterns. WEEK 26 Blackhorse Lane Open Studios DAY 4 - Jonet Harley Peters @jonetharley_peters3115 Pigment low relief construction: The square and circle are used as shapes to make low relief construction from raw pigments and paper - no binding materials are used and this enhances the colour and texture of the pigments which are applied 'raw' by hand pressure and rubbed into heavy weight paper. WEEK 26 Blackhorse Lane Open Studios DAY 3 - Jonet Harley Peters @jonetharley_peters3115 Photo montage: Low relief photo montage made from freely cut shapes from photographic prints. Some shapes are mounted away from the surface creating depth. Some are flat 2D while others go over or underneath each other. There is no symmetry or planned pattern with this work. WEEK 26 Blackhorse Lane Open Studios DAY 2 - Jonet Harley Peters @jonetharley_peters3115 “This is an exploration of fragmentation and reconstruction using geometry and photo montage, photographs are cut glued and curved into geometric and free form shapes, the challenge is to make a coherent whole and make a new reality that works as pattern while retaining reference and story from the original material. The completed work contains both more and less of the original photographic images. During this period I have moved from making larger work for commission in raw pigments to making smaller work using photographs as a material with basic geometry and free form cut out for photo montage.
