A Daddy... W h a t? || Julia and Rachel
While Rachel certainly didn’t always understand hat her cousin was talking about, or that sometimes she wasn’t supposed to actually say certain things if she did pick up on it, she did know a few things: Julia was pretty and clever and Rachel very much wanted her cousin to like her. They had seen eachother a handful of times since the wedding (and Rachel’s dads must’ve regretted her getting her a phone once they’d exchanged numbers), but this was the first opportunity they’d had to really get to know each other.
So despite not really knowing what she was talking about, Rachel had picked up a tendency to blindly nod and smile and agree because see, Julia, I’m cool too! even if she was only half listening, her already limited attention split between her phone and the conversation at hand (the boy texting was really cute, okay? Can you really blame her) and it was about then, Rachel smiling stupidly at a message, that Julia said something that caught her of guard and her smile wiped clean from her face--a relaxed, neutral expression replacing it, her features placid except for her brows knitted in confusion.
“... You have a... what?” She responded, then--not wanting to admit her confusion, she shook her head slightly and added “I--um, I didn’t hear you, Jules.”
