Looking down into her glass of herbal tea, VisĂ©riel stared deeply at the rippling reflection of a marked face gazing back at her from below. Sometimes it felt as though just the day before had the lines been etched into her skin, but today the face in her cup felt like itâd replaced her own many moons ago.
Setting her drink gently to the side, a soft melancholic sigh lifted the studious silence from the rotunda.
âVhenan? Is something the matter?â, Solas questioned, looking up from the stacks of papers that lined his desk.
âItâs just... itâs been so long since Iâve seen my true face. And I look at you & I look at Sera & I... I often try to remember how I had been before all of this took overâ, she said, gesturing to the lavender design that lined her entire face.
âThat is not so hard to imagineâ, Solas replied with a light smile, placing the notes from his hands back onto the table & moving to sit beside her on the couch. âIf youâd like, Iâd be happy to show youâ.
âShow me? I donât understand. Is there some sort of magical mirror for this? ... Other than the eluvian Morrigan brought, of course.â
Solas chuckled. âI have spent a great many years looking to see beyond that which most folk perceive, & you are well aware of my artistic capabilities...â
VisĂ©rielâs face lit up! âAre you suggesting you could draw my portrait without the vallaslin?â
âIt was not a suggestion,â he smirked, âfor your face is one that I could paint from memory if ever your presence I lackedâ.
