42 character development questions
1. How do they move and carry themselves? Pace, rhythm, gestures, energy?
He prowls and stalks like a hunter trailing prey, usually moving only direct and straightforward toward his goals. He is dominance, but not arrogance; aggressive with purpose rather than ego. Broad shoulders pulled back, head held high, he moves like a man on a mission who suffers no fools nor distractions. When it gets him to a goal faster or helps him avoid fire, he will shift into smoke and shadow as a wraith – using the plumes of darkness for cover as well as a tool to disorient.
As Gabriel, he still moved with the same purpose in his strides. No wasting time, just someone who has work to do and no interest in talking to you or anyone else.
2. How much physical space do they use, active and at rest?
Usually never more than what’s necessary. He slinks and shifts down his path wanting not to be detected until the moment is right. It’s only when he melts into smoke that he makes sure to use his space to his advantage – draping as much of it in writhing, wild shadows to help confuse his prey. Besides that, he plays things closely and only uses the space he needs. At rest, he is very much the same. Apart from all the times several years before when Gabriel Reyes would sometimes prop his feet up while reading the newspaper or checking Blackwatch files at his desk.
3. How do they position themselves in a group? Do they like to be the center of attention, or do they hang back at the edges of a crowd?
already answered!!
5. How do they dress? What styles, colors, accessories, and other possessions do they favor? Why?
already answered!!
8. Where and when do they seem most and least at ease? Why? How can you tell?
Gabriel was always most at ease doing his job and anything relating to it. The closest to “relaxed” he would be would often be working out between missions or reviewing interrogation/fugitive files. Jogging, lifting weights, punching bags, push-ups, lunges, and target practice always seem to put him at ease, most evident in the lack of tension in his shoulders or the square of his jaw. Its usually in his eyes and how, when relaxed, they stare off into space instead of directly into the faces of passersby like he wants to wrestle them for the right to walk down the hallway.
13. How do they greet the world — what is their typical attitude towards life? How does it differ in different circumstances, or towards different subjects? Why do they take these attitudes, and why do they change? How do these tend to be expressed?
His attitude with life? Never too impressed. For Gabriel, survival and strength were the most important aspects of it. He never felt the need to “enjoy it to the fullest” or indulge too much in luxuries when he could just mind his own business. Life is about working toward your goals and building a name for yourself for everyone to remember, not about having fun (though fun can be found in that, particularly in the fight when victory pounds in your ears and you earned it in blood, sweat, and the tears you never shed). When around people he became close and comfortable with, however, there were more moments of life genuinely cherished for making him feel good rather than just powerful or accomplished. There were few and far between, but actually the most treasured even unbeknownst to him.
Reaper, however, considers all life to be pointless and aims to show this to anyone who crosses his path.
21. What kind of relationships do they tend to intentionally seek out versus actually cultivate? What kind of social contact do they prefer, and why?
As Gabriel, he only sought out professional relationships if any at all. His friendships have all been unexpected surprises that were encouraged through mutual respect and efficient skill sets. He was never a social man, nor felt any craving to be one. The relationships actively pursued were always for professional gain – whether to buff up Blackwatch’s numbers with good guns and minds or to further his own connections for better access to tools he’d need. Upon stumbling upon the friendships in his life, however, he preferred to keep them private and quiet, even enjoying bonding through unconventional means like sparring or talking shop.
As Reaper, he only chases down ties that will be useful for him to obtain his goals. He wants capable, efficient tools he can toss aside once he has what he wants.
34. How do they understand the world–what kind of worldview and thought processes do they have? Why?
He considers the world to be cruel, gritty, and remorseless and figures you need to be the same to survive it. Weakness will get you used or killed, and dumb luck can only help you survive so far. He feels that every accomplishment, every rung in the ladder you have to climb, is something to fight for. This has been the story of his own life, which is why it was such a harsh, personal blow when he was denied the rank of command he felt he deserved after the Omnic Crisis. Everything in his life is something he has bled for – paid for – and he has no respect for those who are handed privilege and power.

The girl is young and she shouldn’t be involved in this and it’s all the worse because Mercy can’t save her when something inevitably goes wrong.
Like bile in the back of her throat, the guilt, the anger.
Angela didn’t even know her name.
